I've been lurking here on the RPF for almost a year now thinking about trying out an Iron Man cosplay but always felt overwhelmed by the amount of work that goes into it. After seeing Guardians of the Galaxy this past summer I decided I really wanted to be Star-Lord for Halloween and for convention going. Since I had never built anything from pepakura cardboard OR foam, I was a bit nervous and since I have a smallish head, I decided to use the Nerf mask as a base and build the rest of the helmet around it.

I basically used the side and back pep files from the Heglak pep files found on these boards and assembled it and hot glued it to the mask. I had to resize it down 10% to get the templates the right size to fit the mask and look right. Next I Plasti-dipped the whole thing.

And then put on several coats of spray paint. I chose a charcoal gray since it most closely matched the reference pics I had.

So far, for a first build, I'm rather happy with it. It's far from perfect and I still have to do the gold and light gray detail painting but over-all it's coming along nicely.
