My Chewbacca Costume

Yay, noobs are reviving old threads all over the place. :rolleyes

There's really not enough gray fur in that suit. And the way you can see the toes of the KISS boots ruins the look of the feet, IMO.

There are some really great Chewies being made in the Rebel Legion lately.

Thanks for reminding me why I'm not a member of the Rebel Legion. Complaining about the "noobs" is no way to encourage newcomers to this hobby. What is wrong with you?

I think that reviving old threads is great, and that Friskythehutt's Chewbacca costume is great, too. Could it be improved? Is there anything that can't? I'd be proud to stand alongside that Chewbacca any day.

Please. If you're going to get on your high horse, don't mention the RL, you make us all look bad.

I've seen the chewies being made in the legion and this is a pretty great suit as well . That face is probably one of the best I've seen and I think that is the absolute hardest thing to get right. Good job.

All of that may be true, but the amount of people actually coming close to capturing the LOOK of Chewbacca's FACE are nil. This is the best one I have seen posted to date.

Oh, I have to agree 100%. There are alot of people who attempt a Chewie costume, but I think this is the first one that gets the face/hair proportions right.

Awesome, awesome job!!!

Thanks for posting!

I know we want them to be screen accurate in the 501st and Rebel Legion, but isn't there also some variation in many of the character costumes and uniforms from movie to movie?

I think it's nicer to praise and encourage, instead of finding the most minuit flaws. After my Chewbacca was approved, someone in a local group told me they had concerns about my height, as I'm only 6' 7" or 8" with my platform boots. So I was excluded from participating in a 'high profile' event. I agree that such criticism can discourage people from attempting some of the costumes. I do have a pair of skywalker stitls, and recently found the solution to covering them with fabric so that I have a base for attaching the fur. And then the height will be in the 7' 4" height range.

Has anyone else been told that their wookiee is not tall enough?

I hope to have a height of 7' to 7'2", I think the most important think is to have reasonable proportions. I think the RL require Chewie and Tarfful to be no less than 7 feet, I think that's fair enough.

Does the mask add a few inches to your height?

At the moment there isn't an offiicial height requirement (it would have to be in the costume regs) but there is definately a "strong request" that 7' be the minimum height for those two characters.

Hmmmmm not sure how to answer that one :)

Awesome Chewie, FTH - great job

As far as re hashing old threads - fantastic! Do you know how a "forum" runs/works Jedi Loreen? I'm glad someone replied to this, even a year later - it's a great piece of work that many, may have missed the 1st time around.

The hair work is amazing & the head looks spot on. :eek
Killer job! :love

It is usually the people with the least amount of talent that go out their way to make negative comments about other people's projects.
It is similar to a tire kicker at a car show.

Truly amazing work. I'm still working on my leg extensions. I have stitls, the hair, and recently I found some pants that I can hack up to cover the stitls....

Gotta applaud anyone who works on a wookie and gets good results :) Having wefted wigs (no individual knotting yet) I have some understanding of the super fun time it must be to make ;)

The original chewbacca costume that I have was made using hot glue. It was applied to a T-shirt. However, over time there have been a few rips in the T-shirt as the cotton fabric wasn't designed for all the moisture and heavier weight of the glue. I have since glued an armor all shirt inside the top piece of the costume.

For the newer pieces, I have been working with fabric-tac to glue the hair extensions onto the underfabric. And the oddest thing of all, is that I used to hook rugs as a hobby on cold winter nights. So I would have no problem hooking the hair to the tapestry mesh if the rest of the body had been made the same way. I'm even now considering making a second body, and perhaps hooking the fur into the covering over the stilts.

Wishes everyone a very Merry Christmas for the week ahead.
