Muppet Whatnots

I know there are a few Muppet fans here who would want to know this, FAO Schwarz now has Muppet Whatnots.

You basically design your own Muppet for $ 130.00 and yes it is an actual working hand and rod Muppet.

Starting Feb. 2009 you will be able to do it on-line but as of now you can only do this at the Stores.

No wonder MR has no further plans for the Muppet line

I can't wait to see all the violent and disgusting You Tube videos starring Whatnot Muppets bought at FAO!!

I really do think it's a bad idea. But whatever... its Disney's gig now.

aljf, talk to Tom (WAMPA)

Thanks for the ref, but I don't make muppet repros for sale.

I've got a few pics of things I'd made many years ago on my collection page, but those were made solely for my own collection. :)

For the price, I think the FAO puppets look to be a steal, even if they're not "name" characters.

best,
Tom

I'm around. :)

I try to check in here from time to time. Still a great resource for prop talk and info. Plus, folks seem to enjoy the work I've been doing lately, so that's always nice too!

best,
Tom

Makes sense that the iconic muppets would not be for sale, as you want to protect the integrity of your brand as much as possible.

This seems like a fun offshoot idea.

I think it's a very cool idea. Supposedly, theres enough options that you could do a characiture of yourself. Having made Muppet style puppets for a while, I might try to get one of these made, just for the novelty of it being a Henson Branded "me"

Wampa is correct about the price being a steal.

The most recent numbers I have puts getting a "real" Henson Company puppet made in the "upwards of $15K" range.

Now, admittedly, this is a number I got from a producer on a job I was working, but all in all, I don't think that's too crazy a price for a custom puppet from the Henson shop.

So you couldn't make the Old Guys in the balcony that poke fun at everything for like 300 bucks? It looks like the parts are very generic. I'd love to have a copy of those old guys.

Not unless you know somebody who will sculpt foam cheap and I mean CHEAP!

Personally I like the idea of getting a Whatnot. I think I would rather have one that could be an extra in the show rather than one of the main characters. I think I would have more fun with an original character than one of the named characters. Not like I could do the named characters any justice. Putting my own spin on an original character would be a lot better.

If anyone buys one. I really hope they show us some pics and give us a review.
