Muffit - Daggit of BSG

Yet another expensive kit that nobody is willing to break up.

If I could get a set, I'd be happy to make molds and cast resin copies. I never had a set when I was making my first Muffit. I faked them.

I'm finding that out. Does anyone know of any other model kits/parts used on the nose/mouth part? What are the "whiskers" and "eyelash" parts?

I have a couple Wostocks for my Galactica stuff - I can lend the parts to Gordon for casting for you guys, if you need 'em!

The next Muffit for me will be made almost completely dis-similarly to the first one. I was not happy with the construction on the body. It looked fine t me on the outside, but I wasn't happy with the understructure. I also wasn't happy with the shape of the head, which was a pain in the buttocks.

Cool, let me know when these "eyes" are available and how much they'll run. Can't wait to see them.

I'd like to get a set of castings as well! I bought some fur a couple of years back that looked to be an exact match. I'll see if I can find the address for the guy I got it from. I'll try to find the fur in the next day or so to take some pictures. It was sort of a rusty brown.

No problem, Steveo, here's a few more from when the suit was auctioned off. I think the fur may have been replaced, he looks too "fluffy" like he just came out of a dryer!:lol

I agree that the fur looks replaced. the fur is too combed and not "wild" enough. Is that definitely a real prop of Muffit that was sold? Other than the fur. The eyes look a bit different too.

Some say what was sold was a "Stunt" version that was used in the Universal Animal show.

How does the "stunt" differ from the hero? Other than the fur, obviously, which I imagine would have been updated if it were used every day in a stunt show.

When I was building my first copy, I noticed the specific lay ouf the fur was in concentric circles. Generally in 2" wide strips. That's how I made my copy.

The one in the auction has fur laid on in large panels. Like one would do if one were replacing the fur for the sake of speed and weren't concerned with film continuity.

That's not saying it isn't the original suit, I just happen to beleive that the fur has been replaced. Maybe many times. But knowing how stuff tended to work at Universal, the studio probably just turned the original suit over to the stage show and said "use it". I know they did that with several of the Galactica 1980 helmets when they needed headgear for the Battle of Galactica attraction. They eventually got so beat up that they replaced them with a multitude of ersatz copies.

When I started putting together Muffit dimensions, I actually started with that TV Guide image of Boone Narr putting the suit on the monkey. I enlarged it so his hand was the same size as my hand. With no other reference of size available, I figured that was pretty close enough. And it was. Things measured out to even increments in inches from that point on. I used many different photos for size guessing since there is warp from the camera lens and foreshortening to worry about.

Another really good general reference is the side shot of the daggit walking on the back lot (it can be seen on the nack of several school folders and is in the gum card set from 1979). You get a really good, fairly long-distance close-up of the suit from the side. Being far away and pulling the image closer to you by using a close-up lens minimizes the warping that a nearer shot produces. The image made good reference for overall proportion of the suit's pieces.
