MR TOS Enterprise - new pics

That's funny.

For those wondering why that happens: whenever you open a picture into, say, Photoshop, it creates a tiny bitmap thumbnail version that is embedded into the file itself. No matter what you do to the picture, when you resave it, the original thumbnail goes along with it. (I imagine there are settings somewhere you can change to prevent this.)

I recall someone finding an uncropped nude photo of a starlet in this way one time, after saving the cropped, non-nude version posted on her website. :lol

How many unobtainium ships were actually made? Anyone know?

I do not know. I saw one lit at comicon however. It looked nice enough, but I was not impressed with being able to see it was obviously decals used on the saucer. I thought for the money it should be painted or printed markings, that is what saved me from the purchase ultimately. I also think the neck was too long or some other basic measurement wasn't quite right.

There is a surviving example here...

Just looking at the pics of this one, I see the linear accelerator for the impulse drive is incorrectly angled upwards upon the saucer.

Anybody know of how many law suits happened with this abomination?

None that I know of. I was ripped off for $800 and all I ever got was a court bankruptcy notice for Unobtanium. It was granted and I never saw a penny for my claim.

I hate to turn this great MR excitment thread into a Unobtainium bashing thread, but those thumbnail pics are STUNNING. Much appreciation to Treadwell for the explanation.

This shows very clearly that ULTD was aware of the issues this model was having WELL before we customers began to cry foul. There is NO WAY that ULTD had ANY credibility with the idea that they were shipping a product that they believed had any chance for real longevity. Over five years later it still absolutely BOILS MY BLOOD.

In answer to the lawsuit question, NO ONE ever got paid a cent that I'm aware of. In my opinion, ULTD began the dance to bankruptcy court long before they stopped making promises about replacement ships and refunds that they KNEW thay never intended to keep. ULTD could have made a lot of honest supporters of their company and loyal customers whole had they chosen to prior to hiding behind protections that they did not deserve. That's my opinion, not necessarily the truth.

That's the problem with bankruptcy law. It exists to incent risk and investment, but it can often be made to protect the fraudulent.

The only word that decribes these actions (again, in my opinion) is criminal.

As for the Enterprise and Millennium Falcon releases coinciding that was unplanned. The Falcon release was delayed slightly and the E's even moreso. I understand people's frustrations when MR launch two expensive products that they want to buy but have to make a choice over. It's never fun not getting what you want.[/b]
Certainly it's impossible for MR to anticipate every problem or delay that might result in big-ticket items, ordered months apart, ending up ready to ship at the same time. In my case, I received shipping notices for the Vader Ep.III double-sig helmet, Han Blaster EE, and the Falcon, all within one week of each other. And in December, the most expensive month of the year, to boot. :confused

I wonder whether MR couldn't learn something from Sideshow's example. Sideshow has just announced that their premium-format Dagobah Luke and Yoda figure is ready to ship... and they've offered customers the option of delaying shipment for a month:

[Excerpted from Sideshow's newsletter of January 5, 2007]

Important update about Dagobah Luke and Yoda...
We are excited to announce that our much-anticipated Dagobah Luke and Yoda Premium Format figure set is scheduled to begin processing in about 10 days. We do realize that this charge will be coming very soon after the holiday season, and thus may put a strain on some of our collectors' budgets. If this is the case for you, and you would like to delay processing of this item until February 1st, 2007, please contact us via e-mail at CustomerService@SideshowCollectibles.com with subject header: DELAY MY LUKE-YODA. (Please note, you MUST include your T order number, your full name, and your request in the body of the e-mail.)[/b]

Probably true. For what it's worth, there's still metadata associated with those images, and according to the metadata, they were taken by a Sony Cybershot camera on 10/28/2001 - but I believe they weren't available to customers until 2002. A damn shame.

That's a very cool thing for Sideshow to do about the charge for the new Luke/Yoda statue. They are a class act. ---- Still can't wait for my Enterprise. Charge my CC anytime for that MR. ;)

..well. clearly the degree of darkness varies on the gridlines...not surprising since it is, no doubt, a feature applied by hand....I just hope the one I get is detailed with less heavy handedness on those grid lines...I really don't like that bottom saucer pic at all as those lines are way too pronounced. I'll either have to roll the dice and exchange it in hopes of getting lighter lines, or just display this bad boy lit in a low lighting enviroment sothe lines are less visible. So much work has gone into making this so good, I hate it that something so simple as a pencil line can ruin the look of it.

Yes they do look darker on the bottom then the one they shipped me, even with flash.
One HK artist to the next may not understand the subtleness necessary.
I am quite content with the grid job on the one the sent me, but I wonder what I will get when I exchange it.
