So Master Replicas has put their Stormtrooper helmet up on their website. I know what my opnion of it is but I am interested to know what everyone else has to say about it. So take a look at it and tell me what you think. Ignore their track record of delievering helmets in a timely manner, I am only interested in the helmet it's self.

They havent said a work on the materials, but I can guess they'll use FG... if not, they'd said: exactly the same materials used on the movie, or something like that...

Another thing that annoyied me a little is the lense... they said it was the HERO version, bubble lenses... but I can see they lenses are GREEN !!!, and if I'm not wrong, the hero had dark tinted bubble lenses, not green . (although I may be wrong)

Another thing that looks incorrect is the grey color, but I guess they dont worry about these kind of things too much :p

I'd really like to see it person... Could be a nice helmet to have it for display (more afforadable that the SDS insane prices...)

I hate it:sick

There are so many better fan made versions about that are cheaper....

Having abandoned their original plans of releasing 3 versions in various forms of plastic and deciding to go with fiberglass, I really think they should abandon the movie accuracy regarding the asymmetry as well and go for the idealized, symmetrical look, as these, as they are now, will never appeal to any group of buyers - neither the general joe nor the hardcore fan.

And they have the technology available to make the symmetrical deal work - not just doing the DP route of molding one side and then mirroring it, but actually scanning the whole helmet and mirroring it onto itself to get the absolute average symmetrical look.

Totally concur with NHM on this, if they are wanting sales past that of the hard-core fan, they should go the symmetrical route. I own bother the MR Vader & Clone, but will be passing on this!

I don't like it - it has a vague echo of the old Don Post standard helmet about it, for some reason.

I'll be sticking with my much more accurate and much less expensive fan made.

I agree, it looks just like a white blob with painted areas, however I do believe that is a result of poor photography rather than the product itself.

I don't agree that 'no one will buy it' as the generally ('uninformed') collecting community will probably not be bothered about all this talk of unsymetricallity and buy on how it looks like a proper stormie helm. The nitpickers and accuracy whores will of course not buy it because of one detail or another - but that is to be expected.

The only problem MR might face when trying to move these is if the quality of workmanship isn't there - that's a sales killer straight off.

Me? I've got me early SDS stunt and am quite happy ta very much. :)

You know that's almost what I thought, but to me it really looks like a Don Post CA in too many ways. I don't like it at all. I know they tried to do a balance but feel they failed. And for the price? Sorry...I have a fan made FG helmet and it's really nice, and way cheaper. I'll stick with that thank you.

First thing I thought of when I saw it was DP standard 'flat nose' too for some reason!

Well, their small scale helmets are direct Riddell casts - unchanged, even though MR said they would make them better and more accurate... so who's to say they haven't done something similar here with the large scale?

If it LOOKS like a duck... surely... it IS a duck!? :confused

It's horrible just horrible it's a struggle finding anything that is right with it they shouldn't put an ANH label on it although they've probably done that so they can paint the frown black later on and market those as ESB.
I honestly can't see anyone that knows anything at all about TK helmets or collects them going anywhere near it.

FYI, this is what Bryan from MR said about one of the pictures of that helmet...

I just want to say something about the picture. I was supposed to get the latest helmet from Asia this week, but it did not make it. So, the picture that you see is the one that was at Toy Fair, but we "photoshopped" the some of the revisions. I am hoping to have some pictures this weekend to post of the real one.

First thing I thought of was...
"A stormtrooper walks into a bar, and the bartender asks, Why the long face..." ;)

What happened to MR being the "Authentic Prop Replica" Company? This is a nice helmet sure, but the mouth is not right. The ears are too sharp. The eyes look too small and the originals were NOT Fiberglass! This might look good on someones shelf but, so did the DP classic action $90 retail. I'm missing Don Post. For $400 dollars get 2 or 3 fan ones. As to non fans buying these, $400 makes it a hard choice. Hum something really good, or this helmet that looks like the one in that Star Trak/Wars film. I bet these will go to a limited run to give them some perceived value. I have had alot of MR stuff over the past few years and have loved them all. But this helmet fells like a smack in the face to the hand full of collectors that have keep them alive. "They'll by anything if we put a plaque on it." Good luck.

I'll echo what others have said....very disappointing. It looks like they've tried to combine details of an accurate "wonky" helmet and a symmetrical helmet all into one big mess.

Their unpainted mock up from a year or so ago looked far better....I think it was on Jez's site...

this is...bad. very, very bad. i was actually mildly excited about the MR tk lid... not anymore. wouldn't go near this thing with a 10 foot pole. is there anyone out there who actually DOES want to pick this up?

That looks horrible. Utterly disappointing. This was something that I was looking forward to. I don't know how they screwed this up, but they did. Say what you will about it, the AA is a much more desirable helmet. This looks like cheap costume store crap.

It looks cheap, with this and the Ridell recasts they are going to have to drop the "Master" from their name. Seriously how can they use that term and those prices for a very poor quality sculpt made on a large production scale whan fan made's can cover their costs for so much less?:confused
