Hey guys, I need a bit of help.
I cant seem to fill in that horrid gap on the Stormtrooper helmet. I am using white silicon filler, but you can still clearly see the groove even after 2-3 layers and cleaning up of the excess. Any suggestions?

can you post a pic to show us what you are doing?

as you can clearly see the it's just not filling in well. In fact it looks like nothing's even been done to it.

well remember silicone will shrink so i would keep layering it until you get it where it you want it .....If me i would lay on heavy there at the ridge and then use my finger...making sure your finger is wet...and swipe off the excess until gap is gone.,and let it dry.

OK this is what it looks like so far. I still need to clean it up a bit.

I ran in to the same issue and eventually, since I stripped down the whole helmet and rebuilt it, I used Squadron white putty to fill the gap. The silcons ok if youre trying to avoid repainting but by the time I broke mine down and epoxied and bondoed and repainted it it was a MUCH stronger helmet.

the whole helmet was disassembled
the gap between the back and front halves of teh helmet was closed by cutting away the tabs and screwing the helmet together then bondo.
The dome was epoxied to the back of the helmet, bondoed and sanded
The old ears discarded and vac formed ABS ears acquired. I filled in the 'grooves' that the ears fit in to with white putty and made the surface flush.
Filed out the frown and defined it
Sanded teh whole thing down with 320, 600 and finally 1000 grit wet/dry
primed and painted. Still needs a couple more coats of gloss then I will paint the ears and frown and apply the decals.

Just thinking... The MR-CE helmet is not acrylic-capped, right?
I wonder if it would be a good idea to dissolve some scrap white ABS in acetone and use that paste as a putty. I have done so before to fill holes in HIPS.
One problem could be to find scrap plastic to use that has a matching white hue. Another potential problems is that the paste shrinks when it dries, which could cause thin parts to warp. It would be laborous to fill the gap, because you would have to do it in layers (as it shrinks), and then sand down and finely polish the seam.
