MR Anakin Saber disassembly help needed!

The saber snapped on my MR Anakin, so I thought I'd take it apart to see if I could possible shorten the blade and refit it, or at least take it down to a display hilt.

I followed a few tutorials, but once I got to this point, I got stuck:

The switch wires are soldered on (no plug), so they'll have to be clipped and re-soldered, I guess... but the metal handle doesn't slide off the plastic inner. There is a tiny bit of wiggle, so I wonder if those fake LEDs need to be ripped out to get the rest to slide off.

I'm not really sure what to do with this saber at this point. If anyone has any suggestions, used, needs, etc for this, let me know...

It's been FOREVER since I did this BUT I do remember not having to take out those "fake" LED's. Sorry I can't be more help...

Is that the AOTC Anakin or the ROTS Anakin?
3 battery or 6?

This is the MR 2003 FX Anakin AOTC saber with 6 batteries. A real pain in the butt to take apart.

Cool, then I'm pretty sure my link is the correct one.
There's talk about whether the LEDs need to be removed or not.

Yeah, I've read that post and it's slightly different (in the least the trigger has a plug, so that's a LOT easier than have to clip the wires and resolder later). Not sure what to do now... but I'm open to suggestions?

-Try to repair the blade (shorter refitting?)
-Upgrade to a new blade (not sure if this is worth it)
-Remove blade and just keep the hilt
-Something else I'm not thinking of...

???
