Do you have any pictures of your cockpit build. I was always so disappointed I couldn't see any of you build pics on scale model addicts falcon group page. I got there too late I gather and now all this talk is making me want to try it after all...

I dunno what people think about this, but I'm intending to lathe a wooden buck so that I can vacuum form the conical cockpit section; rather than fiddling around with styrene sheets and such.
Also, does anyone have a comprehensive list of measurements for things that need to be changed? I.e the jawbox, cockpit, sidewalls, mandibles etc etc etc

I dived in with the jawbox today, I eyeballed it all....it looks fine to me as a rough assembly, but I'm sure someone could point out mistakes with it :facepalm
Cut the parts up with a scroll saw, sanded and then hot glued into place and re-sanded. Still need to be filled etc etc

The angle will be lengthened and corrected with sheet styrene and putty to make it consistent

I also lopped off the mandibles from the lower hull

More to come!

Weeks between updates eh....seems like I'm going to end up drawing this out!

I cut down the pegs all by 5mm, and used metal tubing to create mounting pegs

Trimmed all that fat now :D

I also realised that the jawbox was too narrow, so I added a styrene plate and then later I'll build up the sides to match

Hmmm, I've been tinkering with the idea of taking some of the details off the engine deck and clustering them more around the exhausts. They're too splayed out at the moment in comparison to the studio models.
Any opinions?

I figured to hell with it, and started cutting back the details; both original and added.
The worst part is that I knew I'd end up doing this!

Some nasty gouge marks are appearing...I'll have to get some fine filler I guess :unsure
UGh. I just want a Fine Molds!

Its definately one of the harder kits to get right.

I think its a case of you either build it straight out the box or you make the kit a lot better than it is to the best of your abilities and pocket cos it will cost .I suppose if you wanna just throw anything on the rear deck, cool but you got to live with it.if you wanna make it a little better and more accurate you will need the right bits or better candidates.but look at the horrible engine exhausts! They need doing also, plus the side walls could do with blue moons at least.then the mandibles could do with correcting (although it might not be 100% necessary) but it will make the finished model a lot better.

The falcon is one of them kits with quite a lot on the list of needs doing.
:)

Wow, carving this thing was an absolute mission without a dremel or anything. I'm thinking I oughta invest in one now :wacko

Messy work means lots of filling :facepalm

A neat lil desk pile of MPC ex-details

It's a pain to do it, but I feel better already about it

Always like watching peoples builds. On a side-note, are these kits worth anything? I think I have one lying around up the back of my junk caravan.

You did that with just a knife? I'm impressed! Also I think you did the right thing. From what I've seen of the finemolds I think you're going to end up with a much nicer model than what you could have gotten from one of those.

Haha thank you! Yeah just a chisel tipped knife and a needle file. It's definitely worth it, it's such a big job that it's worth doing well.

I added 0.25mm styrene "aprons"

This greeblie isn't finished, and it's not glued down. I'll be molding and casting it instead.

Why not just buy the bluemoon side walls?

You get the parts to fit under them three exhausts, side walls, correct sized docking ports and other more correct greeblies, its a good or better start for sure.available at starshipmodeller.theres exhaust replacements with pe grills!

I have these parts as well as falconkits cockpit set and bluemoon oop landing gear.

Dont know when I will get stuck into mine though.at least have a look at the aftermarket products.
:)

Why not just use 1:144 panther hulls?

Jaitea has offered to send me the parts actually

I can't afford it, and besides I'd like to gain the experience from scratching them

Soon you'll be really taking on Jaitea. It'll be like the Beatles and Beach Boys rivalry. I can't wait.
