Movie accurate Vader shins

Hi,

With all the Vader threads that go on in the forum there aren't many shin threads.

Just wondering what is available in the world of screen accurate Vader shins.

Is there readily available castings from any of the movie suits? Does such a thing exist? What was used on the life sized Don Post Vader statue?

Also how long are the screen shins? I had read 22 inches but I am unsure.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I'm brinning this back from the dead thread pile!!!

I have two sets of Vader shin guards...both sets are fiberglass..
one set measures ( from the center of the ancle cut out in front to the top of the guard) 18" and has fantastic sharp detail, but seem very wide..


the other set measures 23" in the same spot..has very soft detail and are very narrow..these are the ones I have been using and are in all my costume photos..

I can post pics of both sets side by side later..if anyone replies to this thread this time!lollol


my question is: What is the length of the originals? If a standard brick is 2 1/4" X 7 5/8" that put the originals at about 18" from the center of the curve at the bottom to the top ,correct?

It would be good to bump this as I would like to know. I read somewhere they were vac formed ABS. Can this be right?

As i know they were from ABS and 22".

The ones in the photo next to Kermit's leg are reportedly ABS, but Brian Muir, the sculptor of the original Star Wars helmet/armor said they were made in fiberglass. Indeed, I've seen footage of the fiberglass versions being worked on but it still baffles me in terms of whether they were fiberglass throughout the production or switched to ABS at some point (at least by the time Kermit toured with the original suit). I wonder if Prowse mentions in his book what they were made of? Here is what I understand is a fairly good representation of the natural asymmetry to the shin set...courtesy of the Prop Store of London. I missed out on these unfortunately...they went fast...

Here are the ones I have...I have heard the 22"-23" measurement before as well, but I wonder where on the shins from point to point thet are measuring? Thos prop Store ones look a bit different than the ones in the B&W pic...perhaps they were ABS for tour& ESB, glass for ANH?
