Move Along Helmet

Ok so ive had this T*E hdpe helmet laying around for about a month or so and now that im back from holiday i wanted to get this little beauty finished.

When i got the helmet i wasnt sure what i was going to do with it but after getting it signed by Tony Forrest at C 13 this weekend i decided it was going to be a move along helmet.

This is how it arrived about a month ago

I thought the brow was going to be too low for a move along helmet so i took off the ears and drilled out the rivets and moved the face plate down quite a bit and then drilled and re riveted it back together. These hdpe helmets are really soft and a couple of times i thought i was going to rip the whoe thing to pieces, slowly does it...

Before and after

Then i cut out the teeth and removed the rubber trim and its time for some paint

Ok here i have 3 coats of paint on this now and its starting to look more like a trooper helmet. The khaki is quite hard to cover with white so i may put a final coat on. The good or bad news (depending on your point of view) is the paint no longer falls off at the slightest touch.

Here are some more wip pics for you good people...

Ok here i have just painted the frown, traps and vocoder and didnt really have the best time..

The paint didnt seem to want to play nicely today and i think more went on me than on this lid. The grey seemed rather thin and watery today maybe it was the high heat i dont know. Anyway the right ear had to come off to fully paint the trap and what a fun job that was. Trying not to peel off all the paint was a job in its self but never mind...

I re-did the grey traps this morning and then this afternoon i put on the black out lines. Earlier today i painted the mesh on the hovi mic tips black as can be seen in the pics of the real move along helmet courtesy of jez at starwarshelmets dot com. Whether this was post or pre production is anyones guess, but its what i ran with.

They were then inserted as wonkily as i could manage and on with the tube stripes. I must admit i wish i was man enough to try these free hand with paint and a brush but im not to trooper decals will do for now...

Getting the rubber brow trim on was a real hard job as sinse i re-positioned the back and cap this has become quite tight. The neck trim was quite easy which im glad about.

So here we are, not quite a perfect replica and im not quite finished either, but this is my version of the move along trooper lid..

i saw your build-up over at the MEPD already but i can´t stress this enough:
very well done and a awesome helmet!!! :sleep:thumbsup

I just love TK lid threads.
And this is signed,very nice.:):thumbsup

I know how you feel building these helmets becomes quite addictive..

Ive followed your helmet build threads and was always amazed at your handy work so that means a lot to me, thanks.

So he is the highbrow trooper.

Do these original Troopers make a lot appearances?

Anthony completed his first-ever Star Wars conference signing at Celebration IV, so i guess he's fairly new to the circuit. Seems to be attending a few events this year though.

The signature from the original trooper you replicated with your helmet is just icing on the cake, super cool, imo! :cheers

I never thought of going sandy with this until i had it signed, i just need to chip a little of the paint off now and think about weathering it :thumbsup

That's pretty cool. Do you have any comparison shots of the original bucket and this one? It would be neat fro all of us that aren't so Trooper Savy to see the side by side pics. Thanks!

I used the photo's on Jez's site to detail the traps and such. Its such a shame those helmets that were auctioned had the ears missing.

More pics can be seen in the real helmet section, http://starwarshelmets.com/

Personally... I wouldn't sand it up... at the end of the day, the helmets would be cleaned and shined up for next days patrol. :thumbsup

Well it wasn't weeks was it or even days.
Still seemed like a bit of time before we saw them. They'd taken the time to get beasts to ride on, while searching for the escape pod, suggesting they didn't just land right next to it, but had to find suitable means of traveling through the desert.

Though - all that was pretty much smashed in the SE version with that shuttle flying off in that scene. So they could just have landed.

Who cares anyway? Just made a suggestion that they'd probably clean their gear at night - just like it's done in the armies of the real world - so it wasn't so important imo to mess up a nice paint job just to make it a sandy.
