Molding for plaster?

I'm a newbie and I have a new project--the Immaculate Heart of Mary stash statues from Lost. I know that there is a pretty accurate version you can buy, but I'm a cheap ******* and I'm making my own with Super Sculpey.
But that's beside the point.
My plan was to make one statue, mold it, then make a plaster copy with a hollow inside for the "stash" (brown sugar:)). But I got to wondering, what could I use to make a mold? Would plaster work, or would it just muck it up and turn solid? And where do I buy whatever is used for molding?

Forgive my stoopid newbie questions :$

If you have a Michael's craft store near by you can get mold builder there. I love the stuff but most people do not approve. It's cheap. After about 5 to 7 coats I'll normally cover what I have with silicon caulk then make a plaster cradle. Hope that helps. I got some pictures two if you'd like.

The original was slip cast in a plaster mold, I don't see why you can't do the same. Your sculpture needs to be free of any type of locking detail, and very relieved.

You will probably destroy the sculpt in the molding process, so don't bake the sculpy. Plaster will shrink as it dries, but not as much as clay slip, which needs to be fired.

Good luck, be sure to post pics

So plaster will be fine? Awesome.

Also, would I need to use something to make it smooth before the sculpt?
