Mockingbird Lane

We watched it last night and really enjoyed it. I agree there seems to be some dissonance with the characters' natural interactive chemistry, but I think that can be smoothed out if they keep shooting.

From what I had read initially, it sounded like they weren't going to be "actual" monsters but more monstrous people, like a more sinister Addams Family. So I liked what they did.

I loved the way they realized Herman, the way they brought in the dragon (presumably to live under the stairs), and the way they brought in Eddie's lycanthropy as a puberty thing and Grandpa's vampirism as "drinking again". I did not love Grandpa's human-sized-bat form.

OH! Forgot - really really clever having Herman's first appearance standing in front of the lamp making his silhouette look extra Franky. I particularly loved that shot. Notice he also kind of walked extra stiff as well as he entered the house to begin looking around.

One thing about the special effects - really good for a TV production, but I think they were just blowing their wad on this one-off and would use far less of them in regular production.

In all, it's a show I'd watch if they pick it up.

So what happened with this, will it be a series or not?

I heard an interview with Jerry O'Connell talking about what was in store for future episodes, but I haven't seen any scheduled yet

Supposedly there will be more dynamics between Herman and Grandpa, where grandpa is always reminding him who created him and such. Also one episode is supposed to be where Herman winds up biting on of the neighbors and starting a zombie apocalypse. He said they delibrately did not go the light hearted comedy direction because it was done 2 times before and failed each time. This is a much darker show.

For the most part I liked it, but I think it could have been a better pilot. From what I heard in that interview the rest of the planned season could be much better, especially once you get used to the new look of the characters and feel of the show

My understanding was that it was a no-go prior to air.

I forget if it was supposed to be a pilot or the beginning of a series, but the powers that be didn't like it and just dumped as a holiday one off.

Not quite. It was changed from a pilot to a Halloween special, however, if the ratings were good enough, there may have been more episodes. IIRC they were sort of good enough, good but not through the roof, so the status is still unclear.

i watched it , thought it was quite good
but 10 million? how! theres no way it cost that

I can see it costing that much, they had to build the house, and the sets. The house location is a bit of a problem. I guess they constructed it in the only space available, but it is hard to find it imposing, when the only thing you see from the street is the top of the roof.

I would have liked it better if they had called it something different. The original Munsters was a sitcom that was making fun of sitcoms. The first season opening was a send-up of the opening of "The Donna Reed Show".

The original show was about monsters that were ordinary people. This one is about monsters that are monsters.

David.
