Yeah, it turns out a lot of members were cheating by using avatars far larger than the 90x90 limit on the old system. The old system would just resize the image so it wasn't usually apparent this had happened.

The new system has a 100x100 limit on avatars, but bigger ones brought over from the old are simply not displayed at all--but a box the SIZE of the original image is still shown! Ick.

I've been turning off such avatars and PMing the owners when I come across them.
