mcquarrie snowtrooper helmet

hi everyone. i'm a new member here... been a member of some other boards that some people are familiar with, so some people may recognize me from those forums.

my name's adam... haven't been on the internets that much in the past year...been a lurker for some time and finally lurked when registration was open! yay!!(y))

here's my scratch built mcquarrie snowtrooper helmet. i built the prototype out of cardboard, spackling, cloth, and bondo and SGB made the final molds for me. a member here has one of these helmets and i've looked and looked to see if he ever built it up from the kit, but alas...nothing on these boards. i'm a new member, so no talk of moving kits please...

you can see the build process here. sadly i didn't document the stages of the helmet that well, but i have been working off and on on the rest of the costume and you can see the process that i use from that, as well as some progress pics of the helmet randomly thrown in for good measure http://forum.clonetroopers.net/index.php?showtopic=9739

also on a side note, if anyone has images of the mcquarrie snowy helmet that HandSchuab sculpted i'd love to see it! i've been wanting to see it for awhile now but no one seems to have images.

these are images of my helmet on the right and the one i made for yodasan on the left.

thanks. these concepts are great in my opinion too and although you can see why most didn't make the cut, they're still solid designs and they still have a distinct star wars feel to them.

hey man - nice to see you here :D
as I have said before though, fantastic sculpt and gorgeous helmet mate

i was just thinking, if i could get a hold of the pattern for the movie snowtrooper duster i could probably get the rest of this costume put together fairly quickly. so far blizzardforce hasn't been much help in that dept.
anyone have patterns for snowtrooper dusters? :$

Welcome to the board. I love this design and your quality craftmenship in this armor. Looking forward to se progress pics.

ditto! i've been off the radar for a year and after grabbing the armor pieces from storage i realized that i really need to complete this costume asap. i'm too close to the finish line to quit!

Wow....killer sculpt, i love Ralph's concepts on this subject, really is the year of the concept art the fit of the cowl is superb.....so refreshing to see.

thanks! i like these designs because it brings something new to a table where everything has been done and done to death. and it's something sort of "new" to star wars that's not related to that new CGI clone wars stuff. (which i'm not a big fan of)

the cowl is made from RV roofing material. it's sheet rubber, white on one side and black on the other and is a lot thicker than the normal vinyl cowl that people use for their snowies. plus it's black on one side which means a Mcguarrie shadow snowtrooper is bound to happen someday!:thumbsup

Hey DI good to see you posting here. I noticed you weren't on the other forum as much.
this is actually the first that i've been on the nets since i dropped off the radar. my move home was a little more long term than i thought. my family also bought back majority ownership in a restaurant that we've co-owned for 16 years and i've been busy cracking skulls. new computer and new internet though and i'm back. i'll be posting over there soon. i'm sure there has been tons of craziness that i've missed. :wacko

Really great looking sculpt, I really dig the weathering job, too. :)

thanks. the weathering is more real world than i wanted... it got dropped and cracked a little so i had to make it look like it belonged.

Fantastic work! Mine never made it to the refinement yours did. Congratulations on completing such an awesome helmet.
