Apologies if I'm posting this in the wrong thread(s), just hoping to raise awareness of this event among communities that may find value in it.

The Association of Professional Model Makers is hosting a mid-day meetup on May the 4th to discuss Star Wars props and models, with two industry veterans who were there making it happen. This event is free to attend, but non-APMM members will need to contact info@modelmakers.org to pre-register. You'll receive the Zoom information upon registration.

The two guests of honor are Jeff Hoefer and Fon Davis.
Jeff Hoefer, fabricated the original Darth Vader helmets (among many other things) for A New Hope. His career moved into digital rendering and modeling, finding him a place designing at Apple, after which he moved on to Google, where he now leads the digital imaging team.

Fon Davis is an Industrial Light and Magic alumni, who has had his hand in more major science fiction franchises than you can shake a lightsaber at. He started work on Star Wars films with the original trilogy remasters in 1997, also having done effects and props for the prequel trilogy. His IMDB credits read like a checklist of iconic science fiction franchises from the last 20+ years.

If you've ever had a question about what it was like working on props and models for Hollywood, how to get into the industry, or just hope to glean some unknown bits of behind-the-scenes lore, this may be your best chance. If nothing else, it should be a fun and interesting way to spend a lunch break with fellow prop/model/Star Wars enthusiasts.

This meetup will take place on Tuesday, May 4th, at noon Central. Pre-register at info@modelmakers.org to receive Zoom information.

May the 4th Be With You, and we hope to see you there!
