Mattel Ghost Trap?

Mine has been checked and cleared of faults and on its way. Ummed and Arrrd about getting one but cant wait now.

Well, it sure was my trap yesterday, although it's still in it's box unopened, can't open it till xmas!!

Interestingly, the box was delivered by royal mail in a whiteish plastic sack, tie wrapped at the top, i assume packaged by Mattel to offer some kind of handling protection.
However, the most interesting part was the delivery address and customs tags, which were attached at the top of the sack with the same closing tie wrap, no where on the tags could i see any declared value or package contents, so UK customs wouldn't of know what was in the box or how much it is worth. Good and bad, as it may of slipped under thier radar, but equally if checked, they may of opened the package to check contents and not released until it's declared value was obtained and duty paid for.

Good luck to everyone in the UK awaiting thier Trap, hopefully like me it will be delivered to your door shortly with mo customs hang ups, i shall keep my fingers crossed for you all!

Bought within ten minutes of going on sale, finally received a shipping notification of !st November! (After emailing them asking if they knew what was happening with my order).

Ordered nearly everything from the GBFans shop (pedal bits and knob for the trap), Maplin (ribbon cable and Hammonds project boxes), and just waiting for MMM to open for business again for some of the rarer parts (banjo/straight fitting, accurate lenses, tubing and metal and vector plates). At least i can just about get on with finishing the pedal, then i can get on to accuratising the trap.

My wife called me to let me know that my 5 are waiting at home for me... She had to pay ***$200*** at the door!

Highway robbery at it's worst. $700 order gets slapped with an extra $200. NOT impressed. I had gotten the extra to use as trades (the demand undoubtedly always goes up) but now to break even I have to get $225 per trap plus shipping.

Edit: Tested them all. At least they work!

Aren't you in the US Mike :confused

I believe he's up here in Canada. Thankfully I have a friend in the US that's not to far away. He's gets my crap and we make the visits. Saves me from giving UPS 1/3rd of the cost of most of my stuff.

Of course I have to wait to play with anything I get, but it's like Christmas everytime I see him! Reminds me - I'm going this weekend! Whoo hoo. I have 2 to 'ahem' test...

Hey Guys, just a silly question, I noticed Bromie mentioned getting parts from GBFans and I was aware that the Red light lens cover is missing from the Mattel trap and the Ribbons are hard plastic. Is there any other blatantly obvious pieces that should be replaced to make it just that much better?

Well, replacing a lot of that isn't going to be easy. If you're going to go to a lot of trouble there's a whole lot that can be done.

But for easy upgrades you could;

  • Make aluminum side rods. With a little patience these can be made with few tools and would fit on to the trap as is. This might not technically be "easy" but if you fail your trap is fine so no big deal.
  • You could replace the labels with more accurate ones.
  • There's a simple cap nut that goes on the rear of the pedal, just below the pedal hinge. You can pick one up at any hardware store.

Same here man. I might call the depot if its not here by Monday.

I got mine a week ago, but then I did pay for UPS shipping, which had tracking with it. Still, I got robbed at my door upon delivery for £27 for handling fees and what not

In Australia you get a $1000.00 buffer before any taxes or duties come into play. We are taxed like nowhere else for everything else to do with living, but get a break on import duties, go figure.

Lucky you. Here, anything that has a total combined value of 50 Euro and over, gets hit with a sledge hammer.

By combined, I mean value of item + shipping cost. Yup, you read that correctly.

Pathetic.

Arrived today, 3pm knock on the door and delivered by the postman. No charges, TBH anything Ive had delivered USPS/Royal Mail has never had a charge on it.

Works fine....and is AWESOME.

Seriously, this has to be one of the best props i've got - I love functioning props, and this has that in spades - I've been trying to trap the cats! (Although the box warns against it!)

mines also arrived 9am today - again in a white sack, no import duty to pay - but the brown box had been opened at some point presumably to check the contents

I can second this. This is certainly an AWESOME prop! The pedal and cable looks/feels a bit cheap but the trap itself is top notch and I have no complaints about it's look. Could it be more accurate? Ya, but damn she looks fine as is!
