Masters of the Universe

Honestly they should just do this as an old school cartoon with as many original cast members that they can get and make it a nostalgia piece as I just don't see kids going for it without Bay level explosions and boobs. The sad thing is the old live action movie would have been great if they'd made it during the height of popularity and there hadn't been so many money issues.

a Twilight Actor? that's a pretty whimpy looking he man.

Maybe this one will be the next one to bitch about. especially if they give it to a fly by night action director who cares nothing about the property.

There was someone recently who I thought would be perfect for the role of he-man...and it'd be a real shame if he didn't get it, b ut for the life of me, i can't remember who the hell it was! ;o)

Re: Masters of the Universe - Development Heck

Maybe...he's going to be Prince Adam :confused

I think I've given up on ANY nostalgic property from my youth being remade into something I won't hate.

pretty much. they keep on giving them to people who don't care.

And I just noticed sony is doing this one. ugh. almost no hope.

I think this new proposed guy looks plenty big.

The muscle size of the old He-Man toys was unnatural. Holding out for actors that big would be literally requiring people to abuse their bodies. The only bodybuilders who approach those sizes are doing it in brief bursts and suffering long term damage from it.

Sometimes people survive hairy car wrecks without major injuries too. But I'm not holding out for Fast & Furious stunt guys who are willing to wreck cars without using rollcages & helmets & seatbelts.

If we want actors cartoonishly big (which, admittedly, would suit this franchise just fine) then we should let them wear fake muscle suits. It might work pretty well if they planned to combine actors in suits + CGI touch-ups to blend & smooth things out.

I agree, I think he's big enough, maybe lean out but that's it. My line was meant to be in jest. My second line however, I fully stand behind it.

I'm probably the only person who thinks this way but...I'd love to see this done with CGI muscles. Really go big with it too, as in even more freakishly cartoonish than the toys. For this one, the stylized look is actually pretty important. The toys came before any story, and the story followed that look.

I think the original batch of 1980s toy figures were already too big. The figures were bigger than the animated cartoon drawings, the mini-comics, etc.

I get it, He-Man should look "heroic-size" and bigger than normal people, yeah, but . . . those toy characters could barely have moved their limbs around effectively like that if they were real people. Try tying a bunch of pillows all over your arms & legs and then see how gracefully you can swing a sword or ride a horse.

When the mini-comic and package artists drew the early He-Man figures in action, they were drawn about the size of the figures at most, and usually a bit leaner/smaller. IMO that's probably the best plan.

That would be HUGE by real life standards, but the problem is it would barely rate a glance by 21st century Hollywood movie standards.

The only news I want to see is that some studio green lit this damn thing and is deep into pre-production. This limbo has drug on too long. Get this made while us Gen1 people can share this with our kids before we die, please.

i'm hoping it NEVER gets made.

I don't want this to turn out worse than new adventures of he-man. and knowing hollywood, they'll hand it o ver to some run of the mill fly by night director who doesn't care about the property, and we'll get meghan fox as teela.

ugh.

The toys were unnaturally proportioned, but this dude is too small for He-Man. Hollywood loves to get their pretty boys and try to make them action stars. No. I want someone Arnold's size at least.

MAybe that's the term I was looking for.. not so much whimpy but...whispy?

I think you said it better.

Muscle suits are a great way to go, even if the actor is already big: IMG_20160630_024855.jpg

I'd take a strong-looking ACTOR over a weightlifter any day. You cast someone who's devoted their lives to weightlifting, and you don't get someone who's devoted their lives to the craft of performing. You get Arnold, at best. We've seen a wooden He-Man on film. With another 50 lbs. of muscle, I think Dolph Lundgren would still have been unwatchable in the role.

I give arnold some credit. at least he kind of looked like he was having fun doing last action hero ;o).

But hollywood doesn't care about that kind of stuff these days. otherwise meghan fox would never be cast in anything again :).

Not true. I bet there's a whole bunch of producers out there who'd cast her for their films without hesitation. Though they don't quite produce for Hollywood...

That's my feeling too. IMO the loss of realism from the suit is an acceptable compromise to get decent acting performances.

Really though, I think doing CGI head/face replacements on body doubles might be a better plan. With some good reference dots on the bodybuilder's head it shouldn't be that difficult to make it work. Just formally give two people the credit for each role and be done with it.

But one thing about muscle suits or CGI head-swapping scares me - It opens the door for the studio to start casting 140-lb pretty boys. I can imagine the bulllcrap rationale coming from the P.R. department: "He has to play Prince Adam too. So we had to use somebody a bit more 'normal' size."
