Master Replica 2005 Vader Saber Fix-up

I got this from a friend today because they found it and did not want it, the shroud it broken, and the sounds don't work, so I'd like to know if anyone knows how to open it up so I can fix the sounds and if I can buy a new shroud for it.

The previous owner (Before my friend got it) most likely stupidly used it for a dueling saber as the blade is covered in scuffs and two spots are darker then the rest of the blade, plus the shroud is broken similar to the way the cheep plastic ones break if you hit them together too hard.

Still a nice saber though.

MR don't make them anymore of course. I'm pretty sure that the Hasbro FX sabres are almost the same thing and the removable blade sabres have a removable shroud. Might be worth looking down that path. Personally I'd just use some two part epoxy to repair the shroud, sand smooth etc.. and some spray putty out of a can from a good distance as it tends to add random 'bumps' if sprayed lightly from a distance to emulate the shroud end and then paint it. As for the sounds etc.. there's some threads over at FX sabres that show how to open pretty much every commercial sabre.

It might work out easier to get a Hasbro new though, they're going for about $100 these days.

Re: Master Replica 2005 Vader Saber

Yeah, but why spend $100 if you already got one for free? :)

For the price, you can afford to experiment. Heck, the worst you can do is break it worse.

Not sure if Hasbro sells repair parts, but you could e-mail them. Otherwise, I'd probably take Shiney's advice and repair the shroud, and see if you can repair the sound (BTW, did you try using fresh batteries?)

Re: Master Replica 2005 Vader Saber

I used fresh batteries and have looked, the speakerr is broken beyond repair, but a new one should cost $15, as far as the shroud, I could fix it in a few seconds with bondo, but I think I want to weather the rest of the saber since it just looks really cool where it is broken, unless this is worth something fixed up, but I doubt it.

Re: Master Replica 2005 Vader Saber

Only about $75-125 in perfect condition. Without working sound, only if the soundboard is intact, maybe $60. If the board is busted, then more like $30.

Re: Master Replica 2005 Vader Saber

alright, then heavy weathering it is!

Glad I got that dremel for my birthday. :D

I'm gonna **** this thing up :thumbsup

Re: Master Replica 2005 Vader Saber

Update:

While trying to gut the saber so I could weather it by baking olive oil into it, I somehow fixed the sound, but I could not remove the pin on the switch to take it apart, so I need a different way to mess the hilt up.

Re: Master Replica 2005 Vader Saber

Glad the sound is fixed. That saber is awesome. It awoke the Star Wars fan in me and makes me want to buy an FX saber and do a Star Wars costume. I think I could pull off a Phantom Menace Obi-Wan.

Re: Master Replica 2005 Vader Saber

You could.

Still working on getting the pin out of the switch since I found that the problem with the sound was one of the pins wasn't touching, I put a leather washer in it and now it works perfectly.

Re: Master Replica 2005 Vader Saber

if the sound works again id just try to fix the emiter. it shouldnt be a hard fix and these sabers look great all shiny and new on display. i just picked up the vader with removeable blade last week and its awesome.

Re: Master Replica 2005 Vader Saber

I agree it's awesome, but the damage to the emitter looks really cool and I'd like to add on to it, if I can't get these stupid pins off the box then I'll just fix the emitter with sculpty or bondo or something.

Cause I can't really weather this thing nicely with baking it, and I can't bake electronics and rubber at 550.

ok thats cool. it would make a cool dueling saber. i had alot of trouble trying to take my MR anakin fx saber apart too (i was gonna convert it to have a removeable blade). i ended up just scratching and cracking the controll box "circut board" so i gave up. now i use it to duel with so its fine :lol

Re: Master Replica 2005 Vader Saber

Cool, right now I'm having trouble still with the pin, but the box is metal I think so it's taking a pounding

Well I got the pin off, but after noticing how hard it is to weather, and realizing I cannot afford to cure it to prevent it from rubbing off.

So I'm going try and put it back together.

You´ve seen the tutorials on blade removal, have you? If not, the search function should bring up several threads.

Thanks, well after trying to put it back together, I ripped the wires out of the board for the switch, and after 2 days of trying, I was finally able to open and fix the saber, moral of the story, be happy with the lucky things you get, and don't try and make them better then they already are, I was just trying to fix the blade and I was lucky enough that the sound worked too afterward.
