Mass Effect 1/2: Normandy?

Anyone ever tackle the Normandy from Mass Effect? It's such a cool ship. I'm really digging on the
SR2
especially.

I haven't the slightest idea about how to scratchbuild with any precision, otherwise I'd try and tackle this myself. I'm confident in building kits, but I just don't have the chops to go it alone.

Somebody's gotta love this ship as much as I do!

oh... I do... it's a matter of time

but it is on my to do list
but first I want to build the Mako

Anyone have tips on how to start creating the main fuselage? Is that something that should be sculpted out of sculpy or something and cast?

Tips?

This is something me and a pal of mine have been wanting to work on for a while, once we finish up a few other projects. I'm pretty shocked there isn't one already, it's a great looking ship after all.

That's something I'd love to see myself, especially as I'm playing through the first game. Awesome game, awesome ship.

Is this supposed to show a photo? I don't see one.

That's hidden so as not to spoil the second game for those who haven't played it yet - due to the fact that
the first Normandy (SR1) gets destroyed at the beginning of Mass Effect 2.

Just looking at the ship while playing, for the main fuselage I would use a bulkhead construction. Figure out the shape of the fuselage and then make a bunch of bulkheads and then fill in between with foam. If you make it small you could fill those areas with Aves Apoxie Sculpt or something similar. I'm not sure what references beside the game are available. I think the collector's edition came with a book with concept art though.

Thanks Jannix - I'd seen that wireframe and was planning on using that to construct the SR1.

Sullis - when you say 'foam' to fill between the bulkheads, do you mean like floral foam? Are there any handy examples of the bulkhead building style?

Well I did have a great site saved that showed exactly how to do it, but the link is dead. Basically you get pink or blue insulation foam at a hardware store like Lowe's or Home Depot. It's the same stuff you would use on your house. For example let's take the main fuselage of the Normandy. What you would do is make a drawing (if you didn't have one) of just the fuselage. Then you would split it into vertical sections, or bulkheads. How many sections would be up to you and depend on the size or the model. Then you would fill in between with foam. Usually you would either put a skin of thin styrene over that or coat it with resin and sand it smooth.

Hopefully someone has a picture example of this!

amazing games, should have the second finished in the next day or so.

The Normandy will look perfect with my other ME ship models I have displayed in my Captains quarters

:p

If you guys are still looking for a Normandy Sr-1 kit...you can stop...I offer a kit.
Hull's about 9 inches long.
I'd post pics...but my camera's dead :unsure

If interested..send me a PM.

Also, a Mako and an SR-2 are in the works....should be ready in about
1 1/2 to 2 month's time.
