Hi, this is my first post on here so don't be surprised if i ask stupid questions. :facepalm

I'm making a half face mask for a project I'm working on, I was hoping to speak to someone who has with some of the materials I'm looking to use.
I'm working on a head bust of myself.

I want to sculpt the mask out of monster clay and then make a negative and then cast another one that would be the final mask, the problem is I don't know what to make the mould out of, could it be out of plaster? (since I already have some) or maybe alginate and plaster bandages will be enough? I looked into silicone and rubber but Im on a low budget.

Id prefer to re use the monster clay in future projects so my next question is, if coating monster clay with crystal clear will ruin it? ( once I put vaseline on some newly and it ruined it)

Im planning on casting the final mask in latex if thats of any help

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Could you explain why you have to do it twice?, the mould should be made of plaster if you are casting in latex and you shouldn't need to spray crystal clear on the monster clay, it is made of wax and shouldn't stick, also I'm sure you know to make it a lot bigger as latex will shrink when drying out.
