Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Agreed it did for Spock, but he's an established core character that the franchise could capitalize on for future movies etc:
I guess there are a few exceptions depending on the character, it's just been the status quo to retcon things too often. That's all they in comics now, just gets tired.

Ward is a good villain, I'd like to see it developed to the fullest, it would keep the series interesting.

I think the show is going to "milk" the character. The smart move is to have him escape a confrontation and disappear from the series for at least one season. You heard it here first.

I'd like to see the dude killed off, personally, but I do see the potential in his being a more consistent villain.

If they do keep him around longer, I'd like to see him fully embrace his HYDRA side. And his fixation on Skye would be a good motivation that the audience has seen progress from "I don't know this chick" to the "I'm not a Nazi" conversation, so we'd buy in to his being obsessed with her, to a degree. It would make him a constant threat, even if a story arc doesn't involve his character (since we'd know he's "out there"), and give a good opposite for Skye, motivating her to become more independent and skilled so she could handle the situation alone if it came down to it.

I like her character, especially after these last few episodes where they seem to have started getting her right. Now, it's just making sure she's able to take on Ward as a villain so there's a balance between the two.

My only want for either the end of this season or season 2 is to see Garrett go out similar to the comics as a way to start tying the netflix series into the universe. I can even semi-see it in my head.

Have Coluson finally find Garrett's base and when he goes in finds him already dead via a sai while a female killer stands in the background or is jumping out the window.

The plot really got moving midway into this season, I really like the potential.
They established that quite a few dangerous prisoners escaped, so I expect a freak of the month episode in there. I hope it does not turn into the Smallville villain a week episode and stays with a mostly long term story line.
I hope as well they can make the sets a bit more realistic and gritty instead of the back lot look.

I really like this show but watching it right now they shot the rope anchor into an acoustical ceiling tile ! Come on !

Not sure what really happened in that episode. Backstory on Ward and Garrett a little.
What did that mean with Skye and the monsters people?

The team had heard in a previous episode that a village had all died, along with a SHIELD team, to protect Skye as a baby. Now we're getting more of the story.

Really, I feel this was a wasted episode.

To focus on Ward's backstory would have been better to have done last week, when we reveal he's HYDRA. To do it after we've already established it so solidly and the whole team is aware, just seems like a filler episode.

While it does allow us to understand him and how the connection between him and Garrett got started, I'm sure if you were to watch these last several episodes of the season and skip this one, you won't have felt much was missing. Besides, often the things that are feared the most are the things that aren't understood. If they were to let us guess and keep us in the dark as to all that went down with these characters, it would make them feel more "dangerous." Once you can understand a villain, they become less villainous. When you can't quite grasp their thinking or motivations, it makes them feel like a threat, which is what makes them exciting. It's like with the original Nightmare on Elm Street: when you don't know the entire history of Freddy Krueger's life, the dude is terrifying. Once you know his background better than he does, he's just a common boogeyman.

I'm hoping that things get back on track with the finale. End it on a strong note that wants us coming back for more!

Well, Fitz got his answer about Ward...

Oh, and I loved it when Coulson was geeking out over all the vintage spy gear. He was like a kid in a candy store.

The vintage spy gear stuff was great!

But I hated the "Ward's weakness" crap they tried to pull. Absolutely hated it.

I think it is pretty obvious they are going to try to redeem Ward in some way, shape, or form, but I just can't see anyway they can let him live. He's just blatantly killed too many people in cold-blood. I'm betting this plays out just like Return Of The Jedi. Skye will be in mortal danger, she will pull the-- "Ward, I saved you for a reason, there is still good in you"-- card, Ward will flip at the last second, kill her tormenters, save her, and probably die in the attempt. No one but Skye will know of his turn and sacrifice.......

I'm very inclined to agree with this....and I'm not happy about that. :/

He works as a villain [now] far better than he ever can as a protagonist. They should keep it that way. It's good motivation for Skye and the others to stick together and keep that circle of trust tight among each other.

And I would have liked to have had Fitz and Simmons jettison themselves to get away from Ward (since we all know that, even though it was in the same hand he used the EMP joy-buzzer with, the faux quarter tracking device is going to work so Coulson and the others find them). That would have been good to **** Ward off and keep him motivated in his following Garrett as well. The two "geeks" of the team manage to pull one over on the team's former Specialist. That's a kick in the pride for someone like him right there.

Still, I'm excited to see how the season closes, and what possibilities are left open for where season two kicks off...

I just REALLY don't want them to try having any romance between Skye and Ward. She's a better character without it. Doesn't mean she can't find such with another character somewhere down the road, just not with him. That's how I feel, anyway.

I agree. It's just too obvious if they play it out the way I mentioned. I hope we are both wrong and they do something entirely different.

If Ward sticks around past this season it better be as a villain.

Anybody else expect the gravitonium to make a last appearance this season in the finale?

While I was hoping for a different kind of back story, something a little more interesting than Garrett leaves Ward out in the woods for 5 years with a dog he has to kill, but can't, I don't think the episode was filler. The Cybertek story has possibilities, and the vintage spy gear was very cool. I enjoyed a lot of the episode, mostly because of Bill Paxton's portrayal of Garrett. But also because of Fitz. That character gets more interesting every time he does something crazy/brave like he did with the joy buzzer.

Fitz is coming a long way I agree. However I doubt that Paxton stays around for a long time on the show. So as of right now they need Ward to be the next bad guy heading up this operation. I think it's safe to assume Garrett is not the head of Hydra so we also have the potential for some new villains to come in that can give Ward his marching orders.

I'd say they also are starting to set up SHIELDs eventual redemption with the Cybertek meeting Quinn was setting up. Coulson and crew end up saving enough big wigs from a Deathlok gone wrong and they can start putting the organization back in some form. Hopefully more subdued and less out and in the world's face than previously.

I liked it. I am really interested in seeing who or what Sky's parents are. Also interested to see what happens to Garrett after getting the injection.
