Mark 2 Iron man Helmet

the latest trailer shows the mask open and closing..........:eek

Well thats CGI rendered. Look at the HD trailer. I dont think they solved that for the original helmet.

Also note the extensive use of CGI rendering. All the Promoshots are all different. Try to look trough the photos and you se that in pnoe photo there is a piston from the arm and out, anoter it does not have it. Then suddenly tubes ans tecnical finess.

For some of the things they did not render is among the coloration is constantly changed and modified. On the standing photos you se parts missing on the inside of the legs, some screws and nuts in wrong possition. And you also se the neck split open.

For the posters there are several different types. The eyes light up diferently, Some have a blue glass liquid look, some white and light blue at the sides, some just white in the fligh scenes. the gold face is suddenly chromed then suddenly brushed metal with texture.

Note also the fingers, they also changes, Also the suit. The LG suit is different from the promo poster.

The on the cheek thats painted red in the photo mentioned in last page thats painted black in other. I think its up to the designer who coloured the photo.

Again. This shows that there is not one sinlge answer to what is right as far as what you see on final film or promoshots.

thanks guys.

theres really no sectret to the resin, alu mix.

its normal fast cast polyurethane resin, mix part a and part b then mix an equal measure of alu powder by volume.

then, sand, buff and polish with normal metal polish

wow, thats waaaaaaaaaay more powder than i would normally use. as far as im aware the more powder you add the weaker the resin is. i hadnt thought about using metal polishes, thanks :thumbsup

Jon Favreau mentions in an interview from a couple months back that what you are seeing in the trailers is not finished work.

He said that most of the non-action shots are simply practical effects with a guy in a real suit. They tried to avoid the CGI as much as they possibly could.

There is also more than one Iron Man suit. I think they may be using the silver/black stealth suite as well as the red/yellow suit in the movie. Which could account for some of the difference you are seeing. Not all though.

Hey Fettster. Is this helmt still designed off your original molds, Ie the same helmet sise as the first batch ?

To chime in, looks fantastic ! :thumbsup

hi chris,

i thought the opposite was true with the powder?

the aluminium in the resin acts as a conducter and helps the resin transmit heat evenly so making the resin less brittle. thats what i was told anyhow. the cast is only about 3 mm thick but i actually dropped it on a tiled floor and it didnt leave a mark.

thanks for all the great comments guys. one theory i had about the black insert in the cheek was it was cut out and had a mesh there to help keep the performer cool by allowing the air in. just a theory mind.

im thinking i might have a go at the rest of the suit now there seems to be plenty of reference.

Brilliant job on that bud, great finish, i've only ever tried the alli powder in an ordinary poly resin, it does work a treat.
Makes you wonder if it'll work when it comes out the mould in that dark grey colour though!

too true.

this came out the mould looking like it had been primered.lol

That´s a great variation of the red & gold helmet, fettster!:love Personally, I do prefer the chrome look since I´ve spottedt it in the trailers, but that´s only valid for the moving pictures. Doubt it would still look that alive, vivid, if they´d transfer it to the drawn page (except of course an artist the caliber of Adi Granov or Alex Ross would stroke their magic brushes...).
Call me naive or romantic, but I really like the idea of nobility and rightousness that the chromed suit suggests... would be great if someone orders a suit from TMP in that version and we get to see the pics. (I would if I had the creds) :)

well as far as i know when you add filler to a resin it makes it weaker.ive noticed on some pieces that it broke easier than standard resin.maybe thats why they give you a max amount to add to any resin??? in this world you never get something for nothing (for me anyways) eg im gonna add something to my resin that will bulk it out and it will make it stronger. the metal powders are to all intents a filler. its listed under fillers on the suppliers websites, im not 100% sure and would happily eat my words if someone has any definate answer, anyone?

I was under the impression that the powder makes it more brittle also. It certainly makes it heavier!:lol It would be nice to find out otherwise though, definitely. Either way, if you can drop it on a tiled floor and get away with it its more than strong enough. Great lid Fettster:thumbsup

All of the close-up pics and the close-ups in the trailers show that it isn't really chrome. Just brushed metal.

That thought makes me a little happy!

Even though no one probably cares, upon further images being released it definitely looks as if it is just painted and not an actual gap in the helmet.

WOW again...!

thanks.

im going to make a static diplay next. i have removed the faceplate and am going to mount it on the top of the helmet like in the scene when the face plate comes down into position. then im going to trick out the inside of the helmet to make it look like it could be real.

ill update you all with the progress.

btw, ordered some clay, going to start the chest when it arrives
