Mara Jade Holster Questions

This is my first post here, so I hope I have done everything right. I have searched the archives on this one, but no luck. Here goes.

I am a photographer who will be doing a Mara Jade shoot for a model. I am trying to get the holster just right (in the past I made knives sheaths and holsters, so it should look pretty good). Anyway, there are two parts to her belt/holster combo. The first is the waist belt and the second is the leg strap. On the official action figure, the holster is on the waist belt and the leg strap seems to help anchor it in place. However, I have also seen it where the leg strap is part of the holster (like with Luke or Han Solo’s). this style seems to look better and make sense.
Is it possible that the action figure artist got it wrong? Should I just do a Han Solo or Luke holster?

I am wide open to suggestions.

Here is the prop blaster I assembled for this shoot…

When I made a MJ costume for my daughter, I used pics on flickr searching for "Mara Jade" and looked at what others had made for costumes.

She looks different in different mediums (games, books, comics, toys).

Sometimes her shins are black, other times silver, sometimes with knee pads and other times without.

Decide on which version of the costume you want to replicate and make the holster look like that version. There is no right answer.

I've made a few Jade Holsters for some friends Mara Costumes.

The way I do it, and I help people create the holsters is to make the belt (including the hanging strap on the right leg) one piece. I make the belt to fit the person wearing it, and attache the back end of the Leg strp to the small of the back of the gunbelt.

The front of the leg straps attaches just to the right of the buckle (I place the buckle on the right side of the gunbelt) I then do the back of the holster to look like this

The Gun should hang on the gunbelt with the grip facing up (the way a real small of the back holster would hold a hangun) I make the left belt loop a permanently attached loop. And the right side attaches with a snap. ( you can just as easily make both straps attach with a snap)

I then let the holster straddle the hanging leg strap on the back.

Hope that helps

Wow I spend a few minutes typing a reply and 2 others post.

Which action figure are you referring to?
The old one that came out the same time as Thrawn or the new one in the 2 pack with Luke.

Looking though my few pix there is just the main belt with the secondary hip belt the comes off the center buckle front and back.
IIRC she originally had a small hold out blaster on the back.

The original girl that modeled for the Insider magazine only had the main belt and a saber.

I don't have any of the comics from the Thrawn trilogy.

Have you taken a look at Wookieepedia?

I just found this old drawing I did for a friends custom gunbelt, If you ignore the leather ring and either stitch or rivet the leg strap to the waist belt, it'll work fine

Excuse the lack of drawing ability
