Mannequins

I'm tired of keeping my ST armor in a HUGE box in my room. It takes up way too much space. Can anyone recommend a way to buy or make a cheap mannequin? < $100 would be ideal.

I've seen a tutorial somewhere about making a duct tape mannequin. Seems the best way to go on a budget. Basically you would wrap yourself in duct tape in a good pose over clothes that you don't mind being destroyed. Then you cut the duct tap in a line down the center of the body and/or other strategic locations and carefully peel it all back. Then you can insert pvc pipes for stiffness and stuff it with batting and it is your perfect size for your costume. I've yet to try this with such a hectic schedule.

Edit: Found one tutorial: http://www.raptorarts.com/DuctTapeManiquin.html

Would a PVC mannequin work for you? I have seen them put together pretty cheap. I don't have a link, but I am sure there are plans for one somewhere around here.

Know what, that sounds an awful lot like how I made my prom dress :$

I've been wondering the same thing too, looks like I have another thing to try out sometime.

Wait... You made your prom dress out of Duct tape? :lol

I kid, I kid. Tho now I wish I could go back and make my tux out of Duct tape just for kicks.

i made a duct tape dummy of my torso....then stuffed it with newspaper...then hung that on a pvc mannequin frame.
one recommendation for the dummy torso...make it long enough to go an inch or two below your waistline....otherwise costume belts wont stay up well.

This is an awesome idea!!!

I've been trying to figure out a cheap way of building a mannequin, and the PVC solution just wouldn't do it for me ..

Thanks for the tips and link guys!!

I've gotten all 4 of my mannequins off ebay for around $100-$150 shipped. Brand new, male mannequins. Just surf and check for deals on a regular basis....I too got sick of having all my costumes on hangers or in boxes.

Yeah, eBay has some excellent prices, if you search good enough.

If you try the duct tape thing, just be sure you don't get any on your skin. It'll hurt like crazy when you try to remove the thing! :eek
