OMG! thank you for posting all of those links! you are amazing! That closeup of the brooch really helps to see how it is made I still have no idea what those stones are though. Hmmmmm. I see all the stitching going thru the Christening gown, I took photos myself when it was on display at the El Cap and saw all that machine stitching going thru the gown. Figured it was put there to hold down all the pleating otherwise it would be out of control.

I have the Blu Ray right now paused to the Christening ring- the full screen of 40".... It's a long faceted black crystal in the middle of several organic metal spikes and what look a little like flat phalangeal bones. Just need to figure a way out to play via my comp, I have an HDMI slot but it is connected to my tower.. so... I may just break out my camera and tripod to get some piccies today :)

Sorry for the grain, but the stress on the train is interesting. And I can confirm is fairly par for the course when cutting crinkly fabric on the bias....

OMG! you are a lifesaver! These shots you grabbed of the christening gown ring and now the train attachment are perfect. I thought I saw the train attached to the gown itself on one of the shots of her facing the King, but I could not tell what was going on. I think I will attach my train like this. It makes sense to control of all that length and stress of the train dragging as she walking. The back of the dress looks kinda funny pulling back like that. I guess I will try and see how it looks.

As for that weird ring design, even though we can now see what is going on there, I still have no idea what that is supposed to represent? Looks like it is shaping up to be a skeleton bird head structure with horns, maybe a skeleton dragonhead with horns? Yeah, that sounds good enough HA! I like the dark crystal in the center. Gorgeous!

Thanks again for your awesomeness and all your research with this!

The ring is the first featured and there is a flyaround so I'll try and get some video of it :) It doesn't seem to be a skull, but it is organic.

I'll try for a video first :)

Oh! And Kristen reminded me ray skin was used. Doh! I was looking for a completely different texture as the only rays I have come in to contact with have been slick rather than rough as they have been alive ;) But that crystaline effect of the brooch does look for all the world like ray skin dyed and sanded back. I'm thinking of getting some plastic beads and casting them in some black resin and sanding them back. It won't get the full effect as near the top but it's about as close as I can think of right now.

And no worries :) I'm a bit head down tail up on my velvet sack and bodysuit of annoying seams :) But I had fun clay doodling some bird skull bases :)

Have seen all your progress work on your Maleficent costuming. You are getting so hardcore with all of them and everything looks great! I am actually going to have the prosthetics made for me because time wise I just don't have it now for the deadline I need my costume finished by and I have never attempted to design facial prosthetics before so yeah definitely need all the time to practice on something like that to perfect the work I am sure.

I was wondering, on the Blu-Ray, are there any clear back shots of the christening gown? I want to sculpt that back bone spine piece but I have no idea what the design is. Also, her side hips sculpted pieces, are they some type of leaf shapes? I hate not having good reference photos :)

OH! and the brooch, it is made in the same fashion as the front part of her head dress. It is stingray. I actually got some black stingray, the real deal, not the faux kind, and I lightly sanded the pebble texture down, it looks exactly like the brooch. Just have to figure out how to mold it around the brooch sculpt, I guess wet the hide and start molding around it, then how to shine up the sanded down pebbles.

Not sure if these will be of help to anyone else working on Maleficent costumes, but I snapped a few pics at the exhibit in L.A. last week:

Thanks so much :) They are great :) I was looking for visual clues in how to contruct mine (again) and these do help a lot :) The seams suggest flat lining because you just cannot make out any seam allowance and the depth of curve of the seam also suggests a lot of fabric is sandwiched together.
http://stuartngbooks.blogspot.co.nz/2015/03/maleficent-birdman-etc-at-fashion.htm
These are also great as is the handful by FIMD:
http://blog.fidmmuseum.org/museum/art-of-motion-picture-costume-design/
Shows the stitching is chain stitch which suggests to me the fabric was mounted to a backing even before it was readied for the gown. This though shows what looks like a dart in the lining layer- just a very faint shadow on the RHS.

Screenshots of the horns:

As seen in the screenshots they from an online video- I simply said "the horns!" In the previous post!

I have the bluray, so will attempt some images, right now I can't really get them aside from taking photos of the screen and it is a very shiny tv!

Okay with the new film I have a bit of a bee about finding more information, so I'll be trying to back track some of these links and add some more.

For the new film I am besotted by three. Only one of which is known in full length ;)

I can make out 7 distinct costumes in the new film, there is one that may put the battle costume in context (before she burns off the outer layer and then after the battle) so I'm not including it in case it's a spoiler.

I neeeeeed more photos of that VVV neckline one (velvet and lace). And the off the shoulder /\_______/\ neckline one. I love the crepe full shoulder pad gown too as it's straight off an off set photo of a silver screen diva!

Anyway. A few thousand images in my references folder need culling so I'll try and get those references I mentioned three years ago...

So, got to see an advance screening (last night) and yes very much want to make all of these ;)

I think I have them all above:
Velvet and Lace
Ombre Crepe
Gathered Sheer
Dinner Gown
Moors
Battle

There is a transitional costume that connects two.. actually three, but spoilers so I'm leaving it out for a bit.

It was difficult to see details of the Gathered Sheer due to darkness of the scenes and our screening being a bit dark. But it appears to be full length and has a strip of the same neckline material at her waist and an asymetric loop hanging to her left. I want to say it's leather I'm just not sure what hide or treatment. It really reminds me of some heat pressed faux suedes with a thin film of plastic.

I made the mistake of trying to replace my collars of my Christening gown so I may need to just set them aside and start a new set!

But like the first movie there is a story to her costume changes.
