Making a Terminator 1/2 Tech-Com Resistance Fighter Uniform

So I'm putting together a Tech-Com Resistance fighter uniform for Dragoncon this year. These are the following items I have already.

Items Acquired:
Hat: Grey Castro Style Field Cap
Headset: Shure SM10A
Goggles: Standard issue US Army Ballistics/Dust Goggles
Jacket: Gunmetal Grey MA-1 Flight Jacket
(also a grey packing blanket for the added padding)
Lantern/Flashlight: JML1163RN 7 in 1 Lantern. Exact kind used in the first film.
Belt: Standard issue US army m56 belt
Holster: m1916 1911 holster in black
Primary Weapon: Muzzelite Bullpup Stock(still working on finding internals that are airsoft or a replica)(Going with this because these are way easier to find than the Valmet bullpup Kyle carried in the first film)

What I need:
Pouches: Still working on this but these are easy to find
Can grenade: Could use a plug/hookup with these
Primary Weapon Internals: Need some kind of mini 14 airsoft gun or replica/dummy gun
Distress beacon: no clue where to find this
Greaves: This item has been the biggest pain in my ass. To me they look like several pairs of German WWII leather gaiters/leggings sort of strapped and riveted together. I've heard that they are old riot cop shin guards, I've heard that they are cricket shin guards, etc. But I have had no luck finding anything remotely close.
Laser Sight: Imatronic LS45 & Pana Vue 2(glued to the back) I have the Panavue but I cannot for the life of me find this laser sight anywhere
Boots: No Clue on where to start, I'm sure some black Corcoran Jump Boots would suffice
Any other props I missed, please leave suggestions and comments!

I thought Kyle's weapon was a Valmet M82A?

It is, they are extremely rare and hard to find. Most of the resistance fighters in T2 however used the mini 14 Muzzelite bullpups. Those kits are cheap and easy to find so I'm going with that. I found a laser today too! Should be here in a few days.

I've been wanting to build a Terminator 1 soldier/Reese uniform for a while. Here's what I've collected for reference-

A few more for ya. The Reese headset has a great 80's tech vibe to it.

Wow, these are fantastic [and I am not even trying to make this uniform].
Thanks for posting ,as you never know.........

There was a guy over on the Aliens Legacy forum that did a T1 soldier costume years ago. I'll see if I can find the thread.

Found it. Unfortunately most of the photos were hosted on photobucket which took a dive a few years ago....but...you could probably contact him directly if you need more info/pictures.

I've wanted to make a T1 tech-com jacket for some time, the associated costs and effort involved were prohibitive at the time -- I'm looking forward to seeing how this goes. Best of luck.

What a great collection of reference!!! While looking through these photos, I recognized the thing hanging off Reese's belt is a distress light.
My Dad had one he brought home from the Navy yard he worked at. Hope that helps anyone trying to ID that. --Ed

I had not seen this thread. I can offer some info. I made a number of props for T1 and owned one of Arnolds jackets as well as a complete set of Biehn's resistance uniform. The jackets for T1 where pretty crude, with unfinished edges and raw cut garment leather for the black leather straps.
You have to remember, this was a low budget film with a art director turned film director at the helm, with some Austrian bodybuilder in the title role.
I made the scopes and rubber versions of the Valmet, as well as the detonators.
I think the scope was a vacuum formed box, attached to a cut off scope, or perhaps a casting of a scope.
The detonator was a cast urethane handle (I think we molded a found piece, but don't remember from what) The body was a piece of thin wall ABS or Styrene tube used for refinery models. (from Plastruct) The top was vacuum formed. The "trick" bit, was about 3/4 down the length of the tube, we added an acrylic ring, made from 1/4 or 5/16 thick clear acrylic. This ring had a hole, big enough to fit around a old style "press" flash bulb.
1668780617932.png

The last 1/4 of the detonator body was the same thin wall tube, or a vacuum formed end, I don't recall.
Just above the acrylic donut, was a plastic plate with a bayonet socket for the flash bulb mounted to it. The handle was attached to a shaft, that had a rotary switch on the bottom. It's been a long time, but here is a drawing as best as I can remember.

1668783442615.jpeg

That lines up really close to auction photos! Great stuff. I'd love to see one of these recreated to that exact flashbulb method.

Great shots.
John Ramsey was the head of the HPR shop at the time, and he's the one who came up with the idea for this. I always like it's simplicity and how effective it was. In hindsight, I wish I kept one of these and the longslides I made.
