Most likely... He is the ebay seller that "lost" a Eumig he BIN'd as an ebay seller then sold it directly through his site for $299+.

He knows that there is a market and would rather inflate the prices as a bidder if he knows that locally he can get them cheap and then re-offer them at the artifically inflated pricing. Or he gets is for $175 or so and resells it to us prop guys for $299+.

Pretty lowdown, but there is not a damn thing you can do about it.

Whats funny is that ebay will not let you see his bidding since hes in europe. Gotta love it.

Guys,
what is going on ? having trouble with ebay-member frame68 ?
I think I am going to sue this !!#&$! for alleged fraud. I have all evidence, I can prove it, and I have an insurance for this. can you tell me what exactly happened to you or what kind of trouble he caused you ?
Isaac_a_steiner told me yesterday that the guy bought all

Thanks,
Michael

Since I didn't want to damage or alter the Eumig I had, I temporarily added a front plate onto the Eumig, made a mold and cast it. You can see the plate here.
...

Now with this piece, I can drill holes into the sides for the dials and knobs without damaging the real camera. I can do the same on the plate for the lenses. In addition, I removed the front of the camera to get access to the clear plastic strip inside and create space for the viewer to be added later.

Wow, this is really cool, exactly what I am looking for ! Maybe I will use the wrong eumig camera model as a base, IF I could get my hands on the correct battery compartment side panel

Dont know why but I was expecting something bigger, along the size of the Simrad Binocs.

Jim,

When I first got my Eumig, I was also expecting a much larger camera!

Since it doesn't have the lenses and viewer on it, I guess that's what makes it look smaller.

That camera is now one of my favorite pieces in my collection!

Well, looks like the ebay camera geeks are figuring it out... In two days there have been two auctions specifically mentioning star wars in their Eumig auctions... great.

Gotta wonder how many people are e-mailing them off board trying to snag the things

Yeah, I noticed that this morning, Gary.

Soemone must have hit them and let them know in their e-mail as one of the auctions had the Star Wars info added as a modification.

Ah well.

I saw this too this morning and wondered if someone was going to post on it.

And it looks like some are still hell-bent to drive the market prices up by bidding them up. Will we ever learn?

As long as people have money and can afford it, they will bid. As long as the Eumigs are relatively rare to find, they will bid.

The same thing happened with Graflexes back in the late 90s. There was a time when the flash handle alone (not even with a camera) was valued at $300 in some instances. The prices have come down considerably, especially due to:

1.) The fact that no graflexes appeared in either of the first two prequels,

2.) MR finally got a license to make replicas for folks (no need to buy the real thing now), and

3.) So many people started putting graflexes up and getting them in lot auctions and such that the price dropped.

But this is how it goes. Once the camera guys figure out the star wars guys want it, they jack the prices up because they KNOW some geek with a boatload of cash WILL pay for it. There's also the subculture within the camera community that focuses on preservation, and views Star Wars stuff as destroying history (because we drill holes and such). So they'll jack the prices up just on principle in some cases, or will refuse to sell to SW guys. Oh well.

Wouldn't suprise me at all if it were good ole frame68...
icon_smile.gif

Seriously it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out. Whenever anyone contacts a seller via ebay, that seller has the persons user ID. From there they can simply search past bidded auctions and figure out exactly what you are bidding on and whether or not its SW related...

Thats why you have a second ID for "sensitive" auctions...

I know I do...

Exactly. While eumigs will NEVER be as cheap as they WERE, the market will eventually settle down to "reasonable". Same goes for the other camera parts needed on the Macros.

In the meantime it will be push and shove to get stuff from auctions and camera stores.

Like the Graflexes, MPPS and Grenades - in time there will be repoductions and castings in metal, resing, or whatever to satisfy a part of the market. That goes a LONG way towards equalizing the market and in the end everyone wins...

I know for a fact that some of us were stumbling over each other over stuff and driving the prices up. Finally, one of us got the forsight to e-mail the other members and set a game plan in action. As such we have now got some of the parts we need AND kept the prices good and fair. There have been some hiccups along the way, but for the most part it's worked out...

Now I need to get that lens in some silicone..

Man this news has gone faster round the world than Chris Reeve at the end of STM, my dad was an uber super8 filmmaker, well I contacted some of his European dealers and they all knew DOHHHHHHHH! Prior to whoever blabbed you'd be expected to pay no more than 18 euros.

Did anyone here just pick one up from the UK : Weston Super Mare area for £6.99, coz you just beat me to it

Man I feel like i'm in the film "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World"

The castings will be what kills the market. At that point, the ONLY reason people will want one is to have an original, rather than a cast. But if all you want is something that looks the part, who cares, right?

It's like with the graflexes. They're down to the $100.00 range on e-bay from what I can tell (much to my disappointment -- I've still got one or two to sell). Why bother with that when you can get a full replica elsewhere and easier?

That'll be what brings down the prices.

You also gotta consider that the other parts to the macrobinoculars (lenses) are even harder to find. Will everyone really go running around trying to find orginals? Most won't. They'll by the MR replica in one neat package. AND it'll be an LFL collectible.

See, but I have a different feeling about Graflexes and MPPs. I think those were so unaltered and easy to construct that it's cooler to collect the real thing, even if it won't have a resale value that is as high as an MR replica

what`s new today ?
some of you guys don`t learn from history.
someone wrote to a seller of a makrobino lens that he shouldn`t sell it under $500.
Okay Mister, shoot me a PM and I will sell you one of my lenses for $499.

there are only two sorts of ppl who would do that IMO :

1) someone who allready have the lenses (no, wasn`t me!) - this person is easy to identify by wearing a "Save the Eumigs" Tee Shirt.

2) someone who`s very frustrated cus he havn`t enough money to buy things like that - this person don`t want that other ppl will get something what he can`t afford - this person is easy to identify by wearing a "I love me !" Tee Shirt
