Lucasfilm to Strike Back March 7th - Lucasfilm vs Andrew Ainsworth

If I had never seen his ad in Starlog (or whatever mag it was), I wouldn't have found this wonderful place. :)

Not the Julien from stourbridge on his profile then? :angel

Sorry but you are coming over as a shill here. Your posting no facts or informed opinions , merely stirring the pot. :thumbsdown

Maybe I am stirring the pot, but 'facts and informed opinion' left this thread weeks ago. Always seems to be the case with any AA related thread.

A pot needs a good stir every now and then.

It's a sad day for justice. The press love the David and Goliath analogy but don't bother looking at the facts. Whatever anyone's view of George Lucas and his money the people being ripped off by Ainsworth are not so much Lucas but :-
1.The people who paid Lucas two and a half million dollars to buy the licence to make Stormtroopers (whose complaint about Ainsworth instigated the case)
2. The artists and skilled craftsmen who were involved in the creation of the Stormtrooper
3. The fans who have been duped into believing that the suit is from the original and paid top dollar with that belief

This made me smile - quoted from the Financial Times online today

Mr Lucas, whom Mr Ainsworth had met briefly during the making of Star Wars, issued a writ when 19 of the helmets were sold into the US. “He rang me up and said ‘who are you?’” recalls Mr Ainsworth.

So Lucas himself rang Ainsworth? Really ? Thought Lucas had enough employees to take care of business :)

Wow, I didnt know about this untill reading it here, Interesting stuff.
I havn't read the whole thread but I get the jist.
I've got to say I'm with Howard on this, this AA fella may be a complete **** but the its the big guy stamping on the little guy thing that bothers me. GL admitted himself he didn't want to be pushed arround by big people in the begining, now he's one of the biggest by he's own admission & flexing he's muscles in this way makes me ( as a life long SW fan) feel bitter. I dont see why so much money had to be involved.
Thats my 2p's worth :)

You might be confusing us with 4chan. We have no need of pot stirrers here. If you have a differing view and care to back up your thoughts, post away. If you are simply here to stir the pot, perhaps this isn't the site for you.

Does mean that Ainsworth can now go after armor makers in the UK?
I don't think he has the copyright there. It just means that the Troopers are seen as utilitarian pieces and their protection has expired in the UK, if I am reading this correctly.

You better step up your game then because it's been done better by others who were way better than you! :lol

If you read back through last nights posts you will see that I also said I like his lids, comparable price to others on sale etc etc.

I also said I applaud a small guy taking on the big guns and winning.

So, if a little baiting is thrown in there as well, wheres the crime. Funny seeing how many people jumped in there. A large proportion of this thread has been just 'hes a scumbag' ' liar' etc. Not really opinion or fact. Just people jumping on what seems to me to be a band wagon.

All I ever read on this and other threads is how much of a big bad man he is. I'm not here to prove this or that. I have read for years the arguements. You shouldn't confuse me with someone who is ill informed in any way. But I do like facts. I don't like rhetoric.

I really enjoy the whole forum. Don't post much, but read pretty much everything, every day. I just get a bit sick of the self righteous approach so many take.

By the way. This is not an apology. Its an opinion.

Thats all well and good but please enlighten us by backing up your opinion's with FACT

Ah but the majority of your posts in this thread has been rhetoric with no facts.

Looks like someone needs to get back under their bridge. :rolleyes

Lets set the record straight, AA didn't 'win' anything! That is just another twisted spin he and the media likes to regurgitate for the David and Goliath effect... And before you tell me he 'won' the right to make armor, no he didn't 'win' that right it's simply the default conclusion since the copyright has lapsed... The expired copyright technically granted anyone the right to make armor in the UK at this time, it wasn't an AA win it was just a default conclusion and assumption... But it's not that black and white in reality as the decision also clearly stated that foreign copyrights are actionable in the UK, to what extent and what final end that brings is anyone's guess at this time...

Here are the facts...

LFL as well as a bunch of other artist and studios have lost presumed copyright protection on many older works...

LFL won the right to pursue AA further in this matter based on US IP violations, the Judge ruled are in fact actionable in UK courts, the extent and outcome of that pursuit is unknown at this time...

So to sum it up with facts we have two LOSERS, the original artist and IP rights owners have lost long presumed copyrights, and AA has lost his proclaimed foreign national immunity to liability from his violations of US law, the extent of liability unknown at this point...

Truth is the fat lady has not opened her mouth for the last song in this story yet...

Well, baiting IS against the CoC. There is the crime in that.

As to the facts, we have one of the sculptors of the ORIGINAL Stormtrooper (The other being Liz Moore) telling you the facts, not opinions. You can sugar coat it as much as you like, but after sniffing out that you are indeed a supporter of this...let's just call him shady in my opinion, you still back pedal.

Here are some facts for you. The Pemberton sculpt had the ashtray. This is the sculpt Ainsworth claims was the basis for the trooper helmets, but alas, it was rejected. The Liz Moore helmet sculpt was the one on the left of the photo that Ainsworth has tried to color "correct" to show some mystery clay color. Apples and oranges. So, he is stealing credit from a true artist. Since she is no longer here to defend her work, he felt it was okay...or something. If not for Brian Muir, what would we know of her involvement in that piece? Ainsworth tried to pass off the Master Replica stands as his own. He is calling the armor, which is recast RotJ and GF armor, his original as well.

Here is some opinion for you. You have been duped into believing his line of crap. You are not alone. He could not sculpt the Trooper to save his butt...at least not the one we saw on-screen. He is a talentless hack who is only good for making kayaks and ponds. See? Those were opinions. NOT facts, just opinions.

It would take a blind person to not see the discrepancies in the pieces that Ainsworth claims are from the "Original molds".

And there you Go, FACT :thumbsup

thanks Qui.

I have read all that before, and don't doubt much of it is now thought to be true.

But thanks for the refresher.

Still like his lids.

So, if a little baiting is thrown in there as well, wheres the crime.

If I served you a tray of delicious brownies and had just a "little" dog turd "thrown in" while making it, would you be ok with eating them anyway? It is just a "little" turd, right? Where is the crime? By your own logic, you'd scarf them down because afterall, 95% of it would be brownie...

The point is, baiting for the sake of baiting has no place here and sprinkling your posts with purposeful baiting is no more appetizing than a brownie with a sprinkling of dog turd.

I really enjoy the whole forum. Don't post much, but read pretty much everything, every day. I just get a bit sick of the self righteous approach so many take.

That is all fine and well, but isn't a valid excuse to purposefully bait people or stir the pot.

Say your piece and move on.

This is not a warning, just a statement of fact.
