LoZ Master Sword Rebuild WIP [NEW PICS 06MAY2013]

Re: LoZ Master Sword Rebuild WIP [NEW PICS 14APR2013]

That is some good progress.
Thanks for the tip about the plant foam. I have thought about carving up some in the past. I wonder why it burns?

How do you plan to seal the foam?

Not entirely sure why it burns but it felt like I had fiberglass insulation all over me. Not fun.

I want to use the spot putty I already purchased to fill in all the holes and then prime it. I already tested the primer on a scrap piece of foam, but I need to test the putty now.

Got some filling and priming done over the weekend. Still have a long way to go for smoothing the surface, but it's getting there.

The darker spots are where it needs to be filled in more.

Update for you guys.. Sorry it's taken so long!

Bad news first. The foam parts didn't work out. Too many imperfections so I bought a lathe attachment for my drill press and am waiting for some lathing tools to come in the mail. Then I will be spinning some wood into the correct shape.

Now for the good news!

Casting of the wings has begun :)

Not the cleanest cast ever, but I only need two of them, so no biggy.

Thanks! I'm moving states in about a week so I all my projects are packed but ill be back onto this as soon as I'm settled.

Well, now I know what the tang looks like. Stinks that it has nothing to anchor the handle to. How did you get it apart?

Yeah I was slightly disappointed with the tang as well. I'm thinking of a way around it.

One of my above posts explains how I disassembled it. Basically you just unscrew the pommel and go from there.

what happened? did you finish?! You were doing so good

It's still sitting on my work table. I ran out of smooth on for my molds and just got around to ordering some for another project. I haven't quit, just put it on a short (sorta) hold.

It's Zelda related, so I HAVE to finish it lol.

awesome, well I'm subscribed so I can't wait to see it...

Your work inspired me to finally start a similar project on my sword of the same model (but in colour) and since you've progressed quite a bit I was wondering about the plastic painted part that comes out on either side of the blade near the Triforce symbol. You said you'd fix it but I'm less experienced or prepared than you, so my question is; does the blade look good enough under the plastic to just cut out the black/ coloured part while leaving the white line design that comes down like TP has it?

Thanks for the positive feedback! Glad I could inspire someone else!

The blade is a little rough at that point, but I'm going to completely polish the blade before I reassemble, so that wouldnt be a problem. Personally, I was going to leave that part alone and just polish it like the blade, then go back over it and paint it correctly, leaving the shiney part exposed to seem like it's the blade. Not sure what I'm going to do.

Well I didn't do too much to it, but I'm pleased with the result... a shabby paint job (my first time) can still look great when it's on a sword as iconic as this one I suppose... as you can see, I took out the little yellow parts around the gold diamond shape. Again, not a clean job, but the paint covers it up nicely.. I kept the blue guard that comes down the side of the bade after my first coat of paint because it doesn't take away from it at all to me.. sorry about the picture quality... best I could do with my old phone...

again, hope you finish yours soon, the progress you've made makes the wait even harder
