looking to buy a new sewing machine, what does everyone use?

I've not much experience with Vikings. I know a lot of people swear by them. If the machine sews well for you then that makes it a pretty good deal. If you got it for less than $100.00 then you got a great deal... Even if it needed repair.

I was thinking of this one its Pfaff Sewing Machine 175$ but dont know if thats a good price ?

I will repeat what others have said. A Bernina is truly the way to go. My costume shop had 5 Bernina 1008 's when I started here and when it came time to increase the number of machines I did not hesitate to purchase 6 more. It is an all-metal, mechanical sewing machine that you can literally drop off a table, pick up, and continue sewing. It makes buttonholes really well, does a pretty decent blind hem, and has an impressive array of specialty stitches for a mechanical machine. You may decide to get a serger down the road (we have a nice Juki industrial), or a nice Pfaff post machine for getting into tight spots (shoes hats gloves), but for a straight sewing machine I can't imagine ever sewing on anything other than the Bernina 1008.

Thanks again for all the help and info! I'm still researching all the models all of you suggested! In the meantime... guess what my husband found in his parents garage...

What do you think?! (y)thumbsdown

Homegurl here is being taken to a sewing machine repair shop to get a tune-up and here belts changed (been sitting in a garage in AZ for who-knows-how-long!) and see if she still works.
All of the original parts, xtra feet, and 1001 extra bobbins, and manuals were still in the box! Oh lord I hope she still works...and yes all of her parts are metal. And she was FREE!! Thank you parent-in-laws!!! Thanks guys for all the help and research material, will still be looking just in case here's something majorly wrong with this find.
