I've never done Barbossa but I know there are many resources found on the POTC Yahoo Groups. It has been pretty dead but I guarantee you it will start picking up again. Do a search for Barbossa costume.

Also check out Keep To The Code. We have several Barbossas as well as a few Barbossettes!

If I recall one Barbossa used a silky black/grey material and ended up hand stitching each and every thread knot in the material.

There are so many sources out there you just need to search on the specific sites.

I remember, that coat material is from Robert Allen fabric collection.
I've see some times ago this fabric in white color, but now I can't find link to the source.

I have photos. I need a fabric source. But thanks just the same

of course - I knew you did, but the people who could help you - might like to see a ref picture just the same. Even people who are not familiar with the costume can help find the fabric.

Maskmaker....I'd be interested in knowing what you find, also, as I am "refreshing" my old Barbossa costume to be a bit more screen-accurate for the premiere, also....I understand that Lewis and Sheron might have had the fabric at one time, but I haven't had the time to search their inventory yet....

Turns out that all the materials for the movie costumes were custom made; you're probably not going to find an exact match at any fabric outlet....

You still working on Barbossa? If so I got a whole crew of people that be willing to help and may even have some leads for ya. We have two incredible Barbossa impersonators on board, a Lady Barbs who might have some ideas too, and a wonderful crew. I can point your compass in the right direction if you still need it. My son is the youngest Jack Sparrow there and the mascot of the crew and forum. :)

Yeah, I'm still working on him (as well as a hundred others, it seems). I've been a member over on the Keep To The Code forum for a few years now, so I know who LB is....there's quite a few Hector impersonators over there! :thumbsup

The Costume Department on Pirates were wonderful with the detail and the fabrics. It could be that the fabric was purchased in a single go and there was no more. I'm sure they made up at least 3 of each Barbarossa costume, so none may exist for purchase anymore.

I'm a member of another forum. Pointofthecutlass.com I am Lady Stingray there and my son is Lil'Jack Sparrow. The crew there may have some other help that you might not have found elsewhere.

First off, I wish all luck making this costume. It's a challenging outfit.

As stated above, yes, the fabrics were custom made for the production. For the Barbossa coat fabric, we can only come close to it. It will have to be custom made by whom ever you get to make your outfit. I'm currently working on the frock for someone, and it's been a very tedious project to get the 'dots' aligned right. Though some have made the french knots, the best really would be a smocking style as you won't have to worry about the french knots coming out. And that looks more like what the fabric had done rather than dots.
A silk fabric in a charcoal color is what I am using. It's not too shiny. Finding the right color has been a challenge as well.
A couple other people have used the Robert Allen fabric titled Dallin. Though there is no charcoal color, khaki is the only closest color and it's a bit greener than it should be. But has a nice effect. The 'dots' are not spaced evenly though, they are more sporatic.

The waistcoat fabric can no longer be located either. There are a few that are close but not exact.

I wish you luck.

Lady B made it to the site! Welcome aboard! If anyone can help on Barbossa, it's her!
(This is Stingray, by the way!)
