Hi. A friend of mine has a son who is interested in building model airplanes. NICE modles, not the cheapy snap-tite ones. Scales can vari, he just wants to know who some of th etop makers out there are. He's willing to pay too, so price isnt a big deal.
Anyone? :confused

For good quality and wide availability, I'd recommend Tamiya or Hasegawa.
They put out very nice kits. Much nicer than your basic Revell-o-gram kit.

Theres an online or Mail catalog called Squadron. They sell diffrent kits from all over the world, makers and scale.

Hey thanks guys,
I knew about Hesagawa models, they're great! But I wanted to see if there were anymore...Thanks for all the info I'll pass it along.(y)thumbsup

I'm a big fan of accurate miniatures and italieri both fairly inexpensive for what you get and I haven't been disapointed in anything I've gotten from either company

Has anyone thought of "stick and tissue"? I know everyone is discussing plastic models, but I just wanted to mention that a rubber powered plane costs less than $5 and when its done, it really flies.

Feel free to talk amongst yourselves

Hit up wal-mart for the 21st century line of models. They assemble with screws, but you can use glue instead and fill in the holes. Best part - they're pretty damn accurate and only cost $10. Plus, they have a pretty good selection of models to choose from. Here's a page of a guy I know who's built a 21st century F4U-1A/D http://agapemodels.com/?p=69

If you want to go a bit better quality, Hasegawa and Tamiya. megahobby.com has great prices and quick shipping.

Trumpeter is top of the line, but the same model you can get for $25 from any other manufacturer, costs $100+ from trumpeter.

If price is an issue. I'd go with the Revell / Mongram 1/48th scale aircraft series. Good quality kits for much less than the Tamiya's and other asian kits. Both WWII and modern warbirds are in that scale.
