Lockable rod puppet joints?

As the title says, I'm building a small "giant" robot that I'm designing as a rod pupper, but I'd like to be able to lock it down in a certain pose as well if need be. Has anyone thought of any solutions for this type of thing in the past? Thanks!

it probably depends on the size and shape of the joint, but i'd imagine some kind of grub screw would lock-down a ball-socket joint.
