I know it's not really modern, seeing as how cassette tapes are all but obsolete nowadays, but they should have found a way to get Soundwave (or a newer version with some other memory cards that transformed) into this film. He was easilly one of the coolest characters from the animated series.

Yea, but he would have been so friggin tiny.
I miss him, and he did have the coolest voice (since only beaten by Kosh in Babylon 5), but I would rather them not butcher the awesome that was Soundwave by making him a 10" tall Ipod lookalike.

But Soundwave was a tape player, and was bigger than Megatron....he would not have to have been made from a real-world item, and I do like your idea of a media player. Maybe one with removeable/transformable media cards of some sort.

Bay wanted to do away with the whole unexplained shrinking
/growing of Megatron, Soundwave etc.
The transformer now known as Frenzy was originally going to be Soundwave. They renamed him during production.

Yea, Bay wanted to avoid "Mass Shifting" (transformer geek lingo for varying sizes in things, like Lazerbeak being huge while being a bird, and being small when being a tape).
I did see a line of transformer toys that had an mp3 player and a cell phone though. they looked kinda cool, but not cool enough to warrant spending 8$ on em.
I think Frenzy is also the little pilot guy in the helicopter in the movie trailer. I don't remember the helicopter guys name.

Nice find! if I was smart I would buy a bunch for 35 bucks each and after the movie hits I could re-sell them on ebay in the prop section for 4 times there value. An easy way to make some money - of course that would involve me not being too lazy to buy them in the first place...so I don't see that happening.

The other day one of the girls on G4 randomly said that it was confirmed that soundwave would make an appearence in the movie...
I passed it off as false info.
But maybe that is soundwave, and he is like 2-3 feet tall?
And they just did away with the ravage, laserbeak and rumble characters...
who/what else could this be?

I have to say that I was really not interested in the new looks for all the characters. I'm a traditionalist when it comes to my G1 transformers.
However, I bought the transforming Optimus toy today @ Target, and MAN am I impressed with this toy!. I really dig the truck mode!

Yeah I love him, i was bit by the bug and had to pick up a group of decepticons and autobots, im holding out on the bumblebee until the 2008 Camaro version comes out though.
