Its ony 1/2 hour from where I live..but I don't know if I will. I have the kids that night (they are 1 and 3) so it's not easy to do alone with kids that young and a croud. I'd be too busy tending to the kids likely to see any of it anyways. I will be seeing him at the Comic Expo that weekend for an autograph so I'm undecided now. If I had a friend who would come and help maybe I'd go.

EDIT (April 20th): They mentioned wanting to get his Vulcan salute impression as part of the ceremony so I emailed and offered my ex wife's services (hehe) to cast his impression. She does baby impressions as a home business so this is a cake walk. They want her to do it on stage while cameras and news crews are documenting it. I designed a Star Trek emblem frame that the impression will fit in and am having it made right now. The security will direct us to a parking spot behind the stage where she will set up on stage while I watch the boys. I hope the kids do well since we'll be right up front! I'll be taping for sure and of course helping finish the casting off the impression, frame etc. :)

Hahaha!

As nerdy as it may be I'd like to go...I've been a fan on Nimoy all my life. I'll go as Vader. ;)

Dude, I got to meet Leonard at Trek Expo in Tulsa OK a few months back (was visiting a good friend of mine who was on BSG, it was her first time to ever be in OK) and she introduced me to Nimoy, that guy is the FUNNIEST man I've ever met. He was hilarious....

Go for Nimoy himself, he will be a riot I guarantee it...

I won't be going to Vulcan, but I'm definitely going to get Nimoy's autograph at CCEE.

Re: Leonard Nimoy to unveil statue in Vulcan, Alberta

I will too for sure. He'll cost about $75 tho. YIKES..and don't expect to get a photo with him..they will make you pay for the photo op only for $65 I think...for a 3 second picture.

Cool, well that's a good 418km from my hometown in Wild Rose Country...

Re: Leonard Nimoy to unveil statue in Vulcan, Alberta

I think I will go. I'll be writhing with angst if I don't go. It's very close to home and free. I should be able to get the ex to watch the kids for a couple of hours.

Oh..my kids would never wear ears and a wig. Hard enough keeping shoes and sock on them! ;)

Dude... get a babysitter! That sounds like a pain having to deal with the Ex, the kids, a celeb, and a crowd of fans...

Seriously, you need a sitter for a day.

Oh and congrats on getting to be a part of that. :)

Is that an offer? ;) I know it would be much easier if we had a sitter, but weekday afternoon makes it very tough! Maybe Nimoy will be so taken with the kids he'll want to pose for pics with us and sign free autographs. ;) I wish!

Recast that impression and we will see you in Junkyard!!!

Of course we should have the baby wipe we'll give him to clean his hand after. ;)

Tomorrow is the big day. The frame looks great..just getting some tabs for hanging it made up.

Weather is gong to be a high of 9 degrees celcius and windy so we'll have to dress warm. No chance for a babysitter so I hope the kids are ok that long. I just hope my 1 1/2 year old is entertained enough by all that's going on and doesn't have one of his red headed meltdowns!

I'll post a pic of the frame I am making (Star Trek emblem with room for the rectangular impression in the middle) when I get it back from the shop guys. It looks cool as bare aluminum, but the Vulcan Tourism lady wants it painted black to suit their office.

Here is a pic of the frame in progress. The big day is today (we need to setup by the stage at 2:45). I just hope we can get through the croud and traffic! It will be sanded and painted black, with the impression area being a silver with a black wash to show the detail. Personally I like the silver color which matches the Starfleet emblem..but I spose with a silver impression that might be too much..unless of course the area surrounding the impression was black just to define it a bit.

My ex is so nervous about being on stage she hasn't been sleeping!

Well it was a fun experience. I wasn't up close like I hoped, but the kids and I hung back in the sound tent with the people running the event. Of course the ex was on stage and met Nimoy and pushed his hand into the clay. Unfortunately it didn't leave enough of an impressions so she managed to resmooth the clay out and get a quick impression as he was getting into the vehicle to leave.

Here is a video of the ceremony. I posted my video but mine was horrible quality. This one is much better. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tyo3kKYEQ8U&feature=player_embedded

The frame is all done and ready. We worked on the impression casting the other night and will be painting it and mounting in the frame shortly.

I did take my 3 1/2 year old to the comic expo to get Mr Nimoy's autograph. First we stopped by Bruce Timms table and he was very nice. My son was shy, and that was pretty much the first time he didn't tell a stranger all about Superman. Too bad..would have been amusing for sure. Bruce Timm was doing drawings, but he was booked for the day (I dont know what he was charging for those anyways). He did sign things so luckily my son had a Superman figure with him so Mr Timm signed the cape..for free. Great guy!

We stood in line for HOURS to meet Nimoy and at that point he wasn't personalizing which was too bad. I had a poster for a friend to get signed and I got an 8x10 for myself. My kiddo did SOOO good the whole time (playing with his signed Superman figure helped..as painful as that was to watch..especially when he was dragging it on the floor), but as I was trying to get everything ready I asked him to carry the large plastic poster tube, and he bumped his face with it so in the crucial moment of FINALLY meeting Nimoy he was crying. I had to push his through the last of the line and past Nimoy. My son was ok..a lot of it was being tired from standing in line for hours. At least I got a reaction from Nimoy as he asked what happened and said, "awwww" with genuine concern. Seems like a really really nice guy.

I didn't have time to look around since at that point my son was DONE so it was time to go.
