My 5yr old soon has a serious attention lock on the Lego Knights and wants to be King Mathias for Halloween.

Since I'm in a helmet kind of mood, I thought I would start with it. I took the toy helmet which is about 1/2" and scaled it up to fit my son's noggin.

The whole thing is made from a camping mat I got at Wal-mart and foamies. Next, it's being textured and then painted gold.

He has a King Mathias smock we picked up at Legoland, and I plan on making a full coat of PVC chainmail to go underneath, along with a scaled version of the lego sword.

Looks GREAT. I love watching this sort of stuff "come to life," if you know what I mean. What is the wrap-around material you used? Keep the pictures coming. I can't wait to see the finished project.

Cool...

That is a great idea and looks like you are executing it fantastically. Very cool, I can't wait to see the finished product.

....Are you suuuuure its for your son? :confused

J/K... looks great. Who would have though to use a foam pad from Walmart. :thumbsup

Great technique and creativity in sculpting that helmet. My fear is whether the paint will do well on that type of foam. It looks wonderful as it is though.

No problems painting. Before I started, I made sure the foam was paint friendly. It's all gold now, just haven't taken pictures.

Cool. Glad you thought ahead instead of putting all that talent into the piece and have it not work because of a technicality.
