Legend of Zelda - Phantom Sword - Build Thread

Hello everyone!

I am very excited to finally be apart of this community, as I have been following this site for about 2 years but never made an account.
Now that I finally have some time to work on a project, I figured I would post the journey here and get feedback and advice.
This sword is something I've wanted to make for a few years, and now I finally am. :D

I first had the idea for this project when I saw the promotional art for the game Legend of Zelda Phantom Hourglass. I instantly fell in love with the shape and look of the hourglass. (Unfortunately looks kinda blah in game in my opinion, mainly because its a DS game and so low poly) Then I discovered the sword and loved it even more.

I think the Master Sword is so over-made, there are a lot of great swords and items that get overshadowed by it. (Probably because they just look like crappy pixels in game) I really wanted to capture the simplistic art style and essence of the whole Zelda franchise, and I think I did a pretty dang good job of that.

At some point I would like to make the hourglass, and maybe the shield, but right now I'm sticking to one project at a time ;P

I've been working on the sword model off and on for about 2 years. It went through a lot of designing to get to this point, and I'm extremely happy with how it looks.
I modeled it in Blender, for anyone wondering. I'm quite proud of it. :) Finished, it will be 37.5". It took some trial and error to nail the proportions. Lots of printing out templates, cutting them out, and waving it around till it felt right. XD

Anyway, here it is!!!! (Insert Zelda item acquisition song)

Looks pretty epic to me. ;)

For giggles, here's V1. As you can tell, my modeling skills have greatly improved since then. :p Here I made it exactly how it looked in game. But it didn't have that edgy simplistic hand made feel like the game's art style that I wanted. And it took a lot of work to bring that feel into the final model.

I recently purchased a CNC Shark Router. I couldn't be happier with it. I've been wanting a router for a while, and when I found a good deal on one I jumped on it. :p Its a great machine, exactly what I wanted. There's one of the test pieces I did.

Anyway, I shall be posting an update within the next week of my progress, as well as a little bit more about myself. I'm almost ready to start actually making it, and I'm very excited!
I'd love to hear your thoughts and feedback. Thanks for sharing this journey with me!
