LARP Weapon / Boffer repair.

I'm in a LARP group and I've begun repairing the foam weapons for some of the players. (Nemesis, Calimacil, and Mythril mainly.) I've had mixed success with the repairs and recently I was told that one did not hold up. I'd like to review my process and get some feedback. I would also like feedback on painting various hard rubber pieces. The paint comes off of them very easily.

For the most part the weapons are urethane foam that's injection molded, the hilts are a hard rubber, and the skins / paints are also a kind of rubber. (Urethane, latex?)

I'm working with:

Contact cement or Liquid Fusion for tear repair. (Usually works just fine) In a few cases I added an athletic fabric mesh on the outside to give extra strength without making the piece too hard.

Creature Cast neoprene to re-skin areas where the rubber wore away from the foam. (Sandable and sticks aggressively, also takes paints somewhat)

A roofing silicone patch putty to fill holes. (Sandable and sticks aggressively) I may try a cosplay foam clay eventually....

I normally use acrylic paints to paint the items. Sometimes I mix them with Permawet for added flex. I've also used Angelus leather paint once and I'm waiting to see how long it holds up.

Permawet to seal the whole piece.

I have a full sized compressor and spray setup so I am able to work with products that require spraying.

I have worked with various Smooth On products in the past. I have not tried Psycho Paints yet but was looking at them.

I have not tried Naptha / Rubber cement paint yet but I was looking at that.

I have not seen, nor have I recieved pictures of, the weapon that I was told had failed but it made me concerned.

Any ideas would be great.
