La Muerta

Well, I'm planning on doing this, so I'll just ask questions and if anyone has the answers, speak up! 
The basic dress looks like a mermaid dress, with a wide circular train.
I understand that I'll have to hand-paint the designs. I'm up for that. It appears to be red knit. My conundrum with the dress is the circular train and keeping the candles upright. I know there are a couple of tutorials out there, but I'm going to Denver Comic Con, and they have an escalator to get to the main floor. I don't think I can use a hula hoop like I had intended. It'll be hard enough not knocking people out with the great big hat!
Also- I've not seen a full wig in the length of La Muerte's hair; does anyone have any recommendations? I'm new to the whole wig thing.
