Gone but not forgotten.
I picked up this issue for an article on the most filmed house in LA. I was about to toss it out then noticed there was a nice little write up on Bob Burns collection. I scanned the pics for you guys. Pretty nice stuff, subjects vary.

Cool thanks Jet. What is with the new Movie Museum???

You're welcome. The New Movie Museum is a great idea if it ever gets off the ground. They want to build it right in the middle of Hollywood to bring the tourist back - they desperately need something new down there. Speilberg is backing it, but like all things they want to build in downtown Hollywood the argument of Space comes up. There is nowhere to build. Right now they want to set that sucker right where the greatest Record used dvd store in the universe is - Amoeba and I have a huge problem with that.

That's the ass end of Hollywood. Why put it there? I know the space is limited there but there are plenty of places other than there to put it. They should put it near the Mann's Chinese theater where the old Film/TV museum was?

Woah, woah, woah.... Jet, you SURE you aren't exposing the RPF to a C&D for posting up a pic of Robby? :lol

Seriously, thanks for posting those up. And thanks for the Hollywood tip. Never make it out there, but if there's a store there that good, I might have to go check it out. :)

Amoeba is quite safe, JetBeetle. Since that article was written, the Academy (the movie guys, not Starfleet) has aquired most of the property due south of the Arclight - adjacent to a facility they already own. (They operate the archive and R&D center out of it.) :

Further, the development and construction costs, not to mention the management costs, have put the project on an even-slower-than-anticipated slow burn. I think it will get done, just not in the near term. If, for some reason, the Oscar telecasts ever go away (a major source of income for the Academy), this idea will be even harder to get off the ground.

Regarding museums in general - the old Hollywood Entertainment Museum that was down the street closed a while ago. It wasn't a big enough draw to get the tourists to walk an additional block west. There is a another museum on Highland, the Hollywood History Museum, that is a little closer to the tourist trap that is Hollywood Blvd. But I don't know what's in there. The Hollywood Heritage Museum, in the Lasky barn across from the Hollywood Bowl is a nice little place that specializes in very early Hollywood history and silent films. Cool place. Great for history buffs. But for the average tourist - I doubt it's that appealing (which is a shame).

So, we'll see were it goes. The one thing about the Academy is that they can bend the ear of many a famous industry type and get some cool things donated. Hope it happens.
