Kowalski's Colonial Marine armor

I have been working on a pep of Colonial Marine armor since I got bit by the bug at Dragon-con. Never peped anything before and it seemed like it took forever to find the files that I was looking for. I just started resining this past weekend. Here are a hand full of images.

Here is my failed attempt at building armor out of pvc pipe. I like the peping better.

Of course now that the second coat of resin cured it looks like I missed a few spots. I'm gonna touch up those spots when I glass in the inside. My first coat of resin wasn't mixed well and there were some sticky areas so I added extra hardener to to the second and it paid off.

Here are the Camo BDUs I will be using. I need to modify the collar into a mandarin collar and all the proper insignia. I went with this pattern because I didn't want to use an official military's uniform even though I have a closet full of my old Marine Corps stuff, screen accurate is out of my budget and I wanted to do something different. I am reusing my combat boots that did time in the desert and I will be painting the armor OD green with some chemical warfare oriented graffiti. Some kind of CN-20/"Suck it Up" reference. I want to incorporate a gas mask to the costume but haven't found one that has the "look" yet.

Been spending most of my free time working on my PR. I am finally back at it with the armor after a long winter with too many projects.

Sometimes you can't help but to put it on, even though it is nowhere near finished. Now the need to work on this will be keeping me up at night.

Does anyone have any input on my armor's sizing? One of my big hold ups was that I felt this set was way too small so I rebuilt a slightly larger pep that seamed way too big. I couldn't really find a happy medium and I am getting a better feeling about this one. Especially since I think it turned out considerably better than my second attempt. Time to start building the legs and shoulders.

It's really close but maybe only a little small. Here's a compasrisson with how it sits onto Hick's chest.

The side pieces should come together closer but if you a have a bitof a belly then a bit a of space will be nessesary , I think. Not to make fun of a belly of course. We can't all be built like 1986 Michael Beihn. :)

Finally got the fiberglassing done. Hit it with some paint to see all the flaws. I have lots of sanding in my future. But, it's progress.

The family was out of town so i have been a busy bee. Bondo and sand bondo and sand. At this point it is good enough, can't do anymore bondo. I need to get working on other parts. The armor is supposed to be banged up anyway. "For what its worth"

Nasty gunny rolls! Screen accurate or bad at rolling sleeves?

The coolest looking real US gas mask was the vietnam era XM28 which was for CS only IIRC.

Wooly - Not a gunny just a real quick roll up for the pictures. You will surely hate the next batch of pictures as well. Thanks for the info on the mask, I will look it up. I know the M-40 inside and out.

Painted chest plus some more test fitting the straps and buckles. 55 days to go.

I love days off from work. Sometimes you can get a lot done. I am strapping it up a little different than most so that the shoulders will be removable. Should make it easier to store and transport as well as add a bit of on the go customization for a particular mission.

All right, sweethearts, what are you waiting for? Breakfast in bed? Another glorious day in the Corps! Every meal's a banquet! Every paycheck a fortune!

Looking great so far!
