Kobold Clip which version is Screen Accurate?

I pose this question as I was not aware there were two different versions of the Kobold Clip.

Background:

Whilst collecting vintage parts for my ESB Graflex Wampa Cave build and sorting parts with Jerry trooper the oldman pointed out something that I was unaware of, Kobold Flashes have 2x different Clips, with the 2x Ball Bearings + Plate & Screw on either side of the Clip.

Versions:

2x Ball Bearings + Plate & Screw on the "Test Lamp Side" or "Lever Side"

Silver Kobold:

I have found images with both versions of the Clip.

Black Kobold:

I have only found images with the Test Lamp side.

Research:

I was unable to find reference to this on the RPF so I asked a few people if they were aware of any past discussions in relation to the screen accurate Kobold Clip or if this was something new to discuss.

So far this is what I think;

Sabers:

Hoth - Lever Side but not 100%

Wampa Cave - Test Lamp Side

I see what appears to be the Ball Bearing hole on the side of the Clip.

Dagobah / Ranch - Test Lamp Side

I put the Dagobah & Ranch sabers together based on the views that at least the bottoms are the same.

Bespin - Lever Side

I see what appears to be possible scratch marks on the side of the Clip but there does not appear to be holes on the visible side.

Shout out to the original posters of the images above.

If this has been discussed in the past please update my post with the links & information, if this is something new I am interested in the views of others & seeing other possible clearer images / screen caps.

Just saw you PMed about this... I think there’s more, more WRONG versions of the clips too. I have a couple where the mounting holes are centered. Beyond knowing those are obviously wrong, I’m not sure.

Given they are a more permanent attachment, if you’re right, that’s more evidence for multiple hero belt-hangers in ESB.

Those kobolds clips, even the accurate ones have a few variations. It's always crazy how vintage parts have a lot of differences.

here is a photo with clips from 2 silver kobolds on the left, they both are exactly identical and have machining marks on the bottom. The two on the right are from black kobolds and have the same grainy chrome texture that Roys replicas have. (sorry, the picture has a lot of depth of field, so it's hard to see properly)

Now, notice how 3 of the clips have a hole positioning that's different from Roy's replica and one of them has the same positioning.
the silver kobold clips also have more oval looking and not as clean holes

Very interesting! I was TOTALLY unaware of this! (not talking about Seth's 'super wrong' version, with the separated screw holes, which I'd known about long before)

I better study this in depth! I'll see if I can some additional images with proof.

Makes me wonder:
Did we make a mistake by thinking that the TFA/TLJ Graflex was a replica Kobold clip because we didn't see the little screw hole? Perhaps it's on the other side?!!!

Holy crap roy!! I didn’t even think of that!

Great observations here The Ninja. However, am I not right that all the screenshots from ESB including the Ranch saber you shared showcase the black Kobold variant and none of the silver Kobold variant?

The Left and Right versions do not seem to be related to the body color of the housing. I have both a silver and black vintage Kobold and both have the ball bearing plate on the test lamp side.

On the black Kobold in The Ninja's photo, am I correct that the test lamp is on the right? If so, then my observation regarding the ball bearing plate holes being present on the right side of the Kobold in each of his screenshots and of the Ranch seems to be accurate.

The Clips used could come from either Kobold Black or Silver, so far I have found Silver Kobolds with both versions of the Clip however Black Kobolds I have only found with the Test Lamp side Clip.

Yes correct the Test Lamp is on the right side.

Correct Roy from what I have found so far the Clips could come from either Black or Silver Kobolds.

Silver Kobolds I have found with both versions of the Clip.

Black Kobolds (Han ANH version) I have only found with the Test Lamp side Clip.

Great point Roy, I thought the same when I was typing the post, but my research had been on the ESB sabers.

old man huh LOL!!

To me I think that there are holes on the visible side for Bespin. In this 4k shot I can make out what appears to be a reflection and then a dark part which looks like a hole.

So that would be the lamp side, correct?

The D-ring is on the higher area of the Kobold clip. That's where they drilled another hole for the ring. That's the lamp side of the Kobold flash. I don't think there's another hole on this side. Maybe some damage.
