Kevin's scatter build thread

Hey hold up! Gonna make me look bad... I only did like half the cutting last night. cuz I'm lazy and wanted to watch "Movie Fights"
I will make sure the elves don't do any work while I'm sleeping tonight. I will bring my tools in my room and leave the cat in my work shop. lol

NeoRutty asked me to hold up so I did, lol. My paint cured on my Kylo build so I started on the metal paint. I am doing it by hand so it will take much longer but I believe this will achieve the look I am after. This is the first coat so it's not going to look like this after.

It is hard to put this project aside (sorry NeoRutty lol)
I'm am beginning my fitting on this assembly so it's still in the rough stages as most of these type of bucket builds are. The outer ear piece covers this ugly gap.

I was going to have my build log on fisd only however because I know there are other bucket builds here, I will post some wip photos and info that helped me get to this point.
First tip is the head or brow trim. I cut away the rough parts as instructed however I didn't look right so I used a long panduit strap as a straight edge.

As you can see, I was way off! Pencil is my new best friend as well as double checking with a ruler.

Once I double checked with a ruler I cut and now the brow trim is straight

also a really good tip I learned was not to cut out the buttom just yet. For proper alignment I used some screws and nuts to hold the 2 sides together. These will later be replaced with rivots.

Next I will be moving on the the outer ear pieces.

These are both tricky and time consuming so it may take a while

Coming together great! I forgot to ask where did u get that trooper helmet?
thank you. It came from ata or affordable trooper armor. A guy off the fisd that supplies alot of the trooperS for the 501st. It's extremely accurate! Parts of the build can be and are very tricky. The ears that cover the seem are extremely difficult and time consuming. I have the interior upgrade kit from Aaron that will really make this thing pop (if I can get past the ears that is) I have alot of plans for this bucket. I'm glad NeoRutty is starting his. It's great when you can bounce ideas of other builds.

Had a nice surprise waiting for me today.

All my parts for my anh graflex build and the last couple parts for anikan starkillers uni body V2. Danny gave me the must have parts list including slothfurnace soldered card. Now all I need is the saber.
So I am sure there have been alot of side by side comparison shots of t track and d rings but here is another group comparison

This is a shot of the custom saber shops d ring compared to roys at wannawanga.com as you can see, TCSS is much bigger.
IMG_2694.JPG
here are the Calc bubble cards. Parks is the smallest and more plastic looking. TCSS vrs Roys isn't that different side by side.
IMG_2693.JPGIMG_2693.JPG
Here are TCSS, Marv, Roys aND for fun next to parks.
IMG_2696.JPGas you can see, Roys being the widest followed by TCSS just a touch under, and Marv being a touch under TCSS
IMG_2698.JPGTCSS is really close to roys
IMG_2699.JPGMarv tracks are certainly taller than Roy's I used Marvs on my E11 build and I'm really happy with them

I am not a fan of ears!
1477353745971753932984.jpg14773537803841722941536.jpg
To be completely honest I was going for that tight to the body of the bucket look however fate had other intensions for me. It actually turned out the way it is shown and seen in the films. None of the ears are perfect on any buckets including hereos. This topic has been beat to death on fisd about true to form or film accurate. I believe it worked out to be left up to the builder and there was no right or wrong, as long as it was uniform and neat.

Oh well. This took 2 days lol! Yes, just one ear. This will also tighten up a little once I install the bottom screw.

This is only part 1 of the build. Only dry fitted with temp screws that will be changing to rivots. Still need to buff and paint the details. Then I am going inside the helmet for part 2.

As mentioned before, I am adding internals to this build. Shown below is the main internal section. You may also notice that I built up the nose section to accommodate the contour of this piece. I also added studs to hold the lenses in place. I felt it would be easier to work on this before I closed this up permanently. The bucket is ready to close up so it won't be long now. The entire inside will be covered with a material I have yet to choose but I'm leaning towards a felt type or thin woven material.

I also have an idea I would like to try with covering or surrounding the lenses. My plan is to find a dark gray or black rubber place mat and lay it around the cut out of the lenses to give it a clean finish look.

For those of you that may be scratching your heads right now, this is what I'm working on to achieve minus the eye specs.

I've never seen that photo before, thats cool!

I was looking for an idea for the inside when a member or whitearmor started offering this kit. Needless to say I suckered myself right in. (Will I ever learn to just turn away)

This is Aarons kit promo photo. I have the full set up. He also offers a smaller kit.

Also, I was torn on what helmet finish I was going for. A toss up from Trooper or sandtrooper. I'm going full blown sandtrooper.

really nice! is it just me or is everyone experiencing wicked low picture loading speeds?

Made some progress with the interior greebies. I bought some fabric at hobby lobby that I liked. It's a heavy felt style and perfect for lining helmets and durable enough for outer use if you chosse. I went ahead and lined the inside front because of all the contour. Much easier to do with the helmet open rather than later. My base coat has been shot on my greebie and the beginning of the weathering as well. It's just sitting there.

Too clean for a sandtrooper.

Getting closer, helmet is now fully assembled and I have begun the painting process. The eyebrow trim is off for painting. I am going sandtrooper all the way. Great, now I need a shoulder cowl! That can wait for a long while because I need to finish the mess on the table. Lol! I am hand painting my accents and not using decals or stencils. I have been studying any photo I can find regarding sandtrooper buckets and they are all inconsistent so I am going for that authentic look. Even though the real movie buckets are fully painted I have decided not to paint the shell. It's a nice hard white ABS already so I will just leave it be. The great part about ABS is, you can clean off over spray or brush marks just by wiping. This is a fun project and I'm still building my interior pieces for stage 2. I'm dying to weather this thing! You can see a hint of weathering just above the right cheek. I couldn't resist and wanted to see how dry brushing would work on the unfinished ABS. It's also missing the tube stripes.
