Kayla's Mini Build (Comikaze First Hunt/playdate Last Page)

Hal1138,

That's one awesome pred suit that you built! !!

Your little girl ROCKS!!!

Kudos to you for doing the suit build; she indeed is following in her daddy's footsteps :)

Add a huntress to the ranks!

Hey Cripledpredator... I found the fabric at just a regular fabric store. It's a super light weight stretch so Kayla is very comfortable in it.  She even likes running around in it with her predator feet and Combi stick pretending she's a naked predator on the hunt.  Kids ...... LOL

Alphatech686... thanks again!  Coming from someone of your talent, I take that as a HUGE compliment.  :D

Ei'luj... thanks so much for your compliment.  My user name is a little deseptive I take it.  Don't think you realize I'm a girl.  In response to your enquiry on the huntress.  Yes, I am planning on building one, but work has resently kicked me hard in the derier and I haven't had time to catch my breath let alone get my design right.  Hopefully in the next couple of months I'll be able to start my huntress thread.

Yes, the fabric came like that. It's a blue snow leopard print on a spandex fabric. It didn't cost me that much since I had a coupon, about 6 bucks. But then again, for such a tiny Preddy, I didn't need a lot. ;) Depending on the weight of the fabric, it can cost you between 6-15 dollars a yard. And for a standard catsuit (high neck, long leg and sleeve), it would take around 3-4 yards. Depending on the width of the fabric.

Kayla's suit was a really simple pattern. Single piece front and two piece back with tube shaped arms and a zipper down the back. When you work with a really stretchy fabric, you don't really need a perfect pattern.

As far as patterns go, you can use one of three methods. A) find someone that makes bodysuits. not that cheap but worth the headache of making your own B) Make your own pattern using the ducktape dumby technic. or C) Find a catsuit pattern online or at the fabric store. The third option may be more difficult for a male form however. Here's a site you can go to to get a good idea on making a bodysuit. http://www.stretchy.org/catsuit/

For her gloves, I just traced her hand in an opened postion, added a extra 1/4" in the width for the seam allowance, and then cut a front and back. I sewed them together using a zigzag stitch.

For the feet I just stretched the fabric over the carved foam base and hot glued it in place.

But if you want a simple and comfortable bodysuit, then I recommend going through these guys. Their Pred suit is awesome, and as good as you're going to get other than doing the whole latex Mr.I muscle suit ordeal. http://www.snakepitstudios.com/#!predator/c1mbb

Just got back from ComiKaze and it was crazy!!! Kayla had her very first playdate with a full size Predator and had a great time. Will is a fellow member of THL but I can't remember his member name. HEY WILL!!!

Anyway he had a leash that he let Kayla lead him around with for a time which was hilarious. And when we stumbled onto another Predator, the crowd went crazy. Unfortunately Kayla was spent by then so we could not troop around with him. :( perhaps next time.

Nice work, Hal1138! I've started a costume for my 4-year-old. I just hope the end result is as amazing as what you've done here!

Kayla won her first costume contest... 2nd Prize and against adults no less..... So proud of her! $50 dollars richer to help with her next build! and toys.. of course. ;) I'll post the video tomorrow. In the meantime, here is a picture of her enjoying a frosty cold one.

And no, not photoshopped.... The real thing baby! Had it made at a special Geek HQ coke station. Supposed to be custom "real" names.... but they allowed it. LOL
