Jurassic Park Security/Raptor Push Team

Hey everyone, just joined RPF not too long ago and I'd thought I'd post my latest costume. It didn't take much I started out with a navy blue BDU outfit, a black tactical vest, and dummy grenades that I bought at a local army surplus store, a JP patch, then the black military boots that I use for my ghostbusters costume. The "work" if you call it that only went into the hard hat, and sewing the patch. The helmet took me a few tries to get the shape I wanted on the styrene plastic. I compared it to a vinyl sticker I bought at Fandom Fest in Louisville, then drew a pencil outline and cut it out. After that was done I had a couple small screws aI bought at Home Depot and put it in. Most people are still arguing which color the hard hat was in the movie. Red or orange? I went with orange because it just seemed orange to me in most shots. I bought the helmet from: http://www.safetycompany.com/products/Fibre-Metal-Hard-Hats-with-Ratchet-Suspension.html I bought the InGen patch from a guy on ebay, the security guard badge I believe I found on here about 6 months ago. Very well done. I had that printed off and I laminated it. Then the pistol, and SCAR I use in airsoft games. Just wanting to see what everybody thought about the costume, and if there was anything that might make it a little better.

I'm also doing a Dennis Nedry outfit already have the raincoat made except I forgot the white borderline around the JP logo. So I might just use this for work! Anybody know of someone who can do a cryo can? I've looked on ebay and there is a guy wanting about 800. Which is pretty ridiculous. I could understand paying 100 to 200 tops.

Looks good! I recently started working on this costume too. Which brand of BDU did you use? I ordered a set of navy Tru-spec BDUs and I was disappointed with how dark the color is, they look almost black. Now I'm trying to decide if I should return them or try weathering and fading them. Did you do any weathering to your costume?
How did you put the logo on your raincoat? It looks really professional.

Thanks! My BDU is navy blue from Rothco. I didn't do any weathering, and that was the closest I found to the actual uniforms. I'd recommend the Rotcho and they are a little bit cheaper if you order directly from them and the color is perfect compared to other BDU's I've looked at. The raincoat I used screen printing. A buddy who does t-shirts for our ghostbuster group said I could use his equipment. He didn't want to do it because he didn't think it would stay. So for free use it's not that bad of a coat. I did have to resize the teeth on the front logo because it originally wouldn't show up. If you look closer on the front you can notice I messed up the teeth. So I hope that he'll just do it next time so I don't mess it up again. So if you have any place that you know of that does screen printing tell them it'll work. My guy was worried it wouldn't work. It shouldn't cost maybe 30 bucks for the raincoat and screen printing. I bought my raincoat at harbor freight for 8 dollars. I tested my coat by spraying it with a hose and it stayed on so far! So I should be able to use it as a prop and for actual use.

O I love the raincoat and the Handler costume! Very nicely dont.
I've been looking for the same two things for a while now... but haven't had any luck so far.

I saw some of these at Dragon*Con and for a simple costume they do look awesome.

As the scene was pretty dark it's tough to know what color and style the BDU's were but yours look fine to me.
The helmet is surprisingly easy as well but looks 'the business' in orange.
I actually took stills of mine under different light conditions and still say orange is the way to go.

Only additions I can recommend are either the cattle-prod (based on a divers spear gun) or actually having a full size raptor cage.
I've seriosuly considered building one of those but being in Oklahoma I need both spaces in my garage in case of hail etc.

Now on the topic of a Nedry costume...
1. Raincoat looks great.
I had mine done in vinyl which holds up to the rain but the Harbor Freight ones are accurate so good job there.
I'd be interested to see how the silk screen holds up to the rain but if you've had a hose on there already I'd say it's good enough.

2. I'm going from memory here but the only thing I can think of that may be hassle is the shirt.
Pants were khaki and the shoes I doubt anyone would worry about.
The cryo-can you can grab from here as a few are for sale but don't wait as supplies are drying up.
$800 is way overpriced unless you're the seller ;) I'd budget about $250 max for that.
Honestly though if costuming I'd have a basic $1.50 can from Walmart because opening and closing it can lead to a crushed outer can VERY easily.
Keep the real thing at home safe and sound

3. You need the Jeep!!
No seriosuly, about $10,000 and you'll be golden with a 92 Wrangler Sahara with the paint job ;)

4. Thoughts on making it 'more' than just 'I look like Nedry'?
a) wet your hair with gel or spray
b) use makeup to simulate the spit on your face (my fav')
c) fog up the glasses?

All things to work on but you've got a great start so far.

Yeah, I'm hoping to eventually make the stun gun but those spear guns are pretty expensive. The Nedry costume I'll just need the cryo can, khaki pants, and a light grey or blue button up shirt if I remember right. Then I'm actually going to start on a Jeep in a year or two. Sometime after college. This summer I made some vehicle I.D. badges So I've got that ready for my jeep. However, is the Jeep a '93 Sahara. I've heard '92 and '93 from a various amount of people. When I do mine though I'll start with just a wrangler most likely.

It seems you are following in my exact footsteps. I already did a raptor team outfit. Bought the speargun and will convert it one day.
Currently working on my Jeep and Nedry costume.

Nice collection in the background by the way. Your Jeep looks awesome! I'm going with the number 18 Jeep, however, I've got another year or two before I can afford it.

can we revive this thread?

Does anyone know where I can get these specific BDUs, this specific looking patch (the ones on eBay do not match this) and the hard hat?

I bought my BDU's from a local army surplus store. Mine doesn't have a brand name so it'd be best to look online for an army surplus if you don't have a local store that can order you one. As for the patch, I bought mine from ebay that's that exact one (unless I'm missing a small detail.) and they are still on there now. The hard had I bought from an online site that I can't remember the name now. it was 20 bucks with shipping. You might be able to pick one up at home depot. My local store is carrying them now. I just bought a JP decal and cut out some styrene plastic to the shape of the sticker then screwed it into the hat.

The only decent shots I have of the vest are of the side and back....

Good place to get the logo printed for applying to the raincoat? I picked up a coat from harbor freight, but ran into a snag...

Id would rather not use vinyl stickers, they tend to peel off the edges, cant use it on clothes, ive read that youd have to use something called waterslide decals. I assume these are the kinds of stickers you put in water then apply onto the surface, like what they use on military models.

For the vest itself. I myself am a military fanatic or whatever people callem, i havent exactly seen a vest with an open back with buckles before. The front is very standard looking, similar to those used by SWAT teams in the 90s and early to mid 2000's. Best anyone can do with accuracies is use these variants i guess

Recently found out, there arent alot of contruction helmets these days that have a design like the security units in JP, most have some kinda design on the top. Mght have to order those up myself.

Im getting my costume started but dont know where to get the plastic for the logo on the helmet locally.

I'll have to check on those waterslide decals. as for the styrene plastic I found plastic at a local sign shop and they gave me a scrap piece they had.

Usually an embroidery shop can do it if they do vinyl as well.

I don't think waterslide decals are flexible. If they're not, and you put one on a flexible surface like a raincoat, it might crack and / or flake off.
