Jurassic Park cryo can fluids?

Need help identifying the best substance to use in the vials of the JP cryo can. Have tried a few different cooking oils over here in the UK but none seem to be bright enough. All that I've tried don't really have the colour I've seen in others vials.

Any help (especially from UK members as they know the brands) would be a great help.....

Water and yellow food coloring will be your best match. :thumbsup

Yellow glowsticks has that vibrant color even after being used. Can't remember if its the vial that breaks that's yellow or the surrounding fluid.

Get a cheap pack of markers, maybe a highlighter as well crack open the appropriate colors and dip/soak the ink sponges is a glass of glycerin... Or use fool coloring and glycerin... The reason I suggest glycerin is that it has a little more body to it, thus not looking like colored water and it also it doesn't evaporate as readily...

I've had my can for some 3 odd years, and the viles are still empty. Believe it or not, still haven't decided which is the best way to go, so excellent question.

I had filled my Indiana Jones Antidote Vile with gatorade, so I think I will do the same with the viles. My initial fear was that the sugar would somehow 'ferment' or something, but time has shown otherwise.

Thanks for this 'reminder' thread :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup

How has the food coloring route gone for people generally? I once made a vial of blood for a halloween costume using water and red and it ended up settling and getting pretty nasty when I found the vial a year or so later. I would hate to ruin my vials which is why up to now, they have been empty.

Maybe someone can buy some extra vials in bulk and distribute them to who's interested. I think those won't cost a lot in bulk and I'd be interested in 30 or 40 extra vials so I can experiment with them... Maybe Rylo can tell us where he bought the vials? I'll send him a PM to ask...

Rylo doesn't know the contact where he bought the vials, anymore. So we'll have to search for a supplier ourselves...

Water with food coloring seems to be the best route, dish detergent etc doesn't have enough coloring. Plus since it is such a small amount of water, the water tension give it an illusion of being thicker. Plus most thicker liquids will "coat" the upper portion of the vials (they are only about half full in the movie) when moved/tipped.

I have a good portion of vials that I picked up a while back. I was planning to distribute them but never really got around to it. What would be a fair price for a set of 10 without labels/coloring?

They're actually called microcentrifuge tubes or eppendorf tubes..if you know someone who works at a university lab, you can ask them to give you some old ones that have been discarded. Labs throw these out like old newspaper...in fact the bin next to me is full of used ones.

But don't ask for the brand new ones though because that's stealing.

I actually work in a lab (not as a lab employee), but here they use these tubes with click-on caps, not with screw-on caps. The first kind is pretty easy to find, but the ones with screw-on caps I've never seen over here.
