Jungle Cruise inspired patio

So this is something that isn't normally found on the RPF but I thought it would be fun to post this project of mine anyways. We just got a home in Orlando and it needs quite a bit of renovating as you will be able to tell by the photos. Looking at the little patio we have and the canal that is just behind the house got me thinking that it would be a neat idea to theme the place. And with the Jungle Cruise being one of my all time favorite attractions I thought it would be a perfect fit.

So to start off heres a couple pictures of the enclosed patio

After looking at that I gathered some reference photos. These are just a couple of the photos that I looked at.

Then I took a little bit of time to do some concept art. It's not much and I am not very artistic to begin with but at least I can use straight lines fairly well.

I decided to use the paint scheme of the jungle cruise. And while those are probably not the exact shades of green and brown I will use I kind of like the contrast between the two. The poles are going to be bamboo. The structure itself is constructed out of aluminum framing so any panels and bamboo that I add will all be facade. This concept is for the interior of the enclosed patio. Because this house is in an HOA I don't think I'll be allowed to theme the outside in order to keep a uniform look in the neighborhood (I'll have to double check though).

I plan to add more details this is just a rough idea of what I envision it to be. I'm going to add some signage as well as props from the Jungle Cruise. Also, considering that Indiana Jones is right next door at Disneyland I think I'm going to incorporate some Indiana Jones stuff as well.

Now here is where modeling comes in. I've decided to make a scale model of the place before I actually do anything to it. And due to other things I have to take care of it will be a while before I can make some serious headway on making this themed patio project a reality.

I decided to build the model in 1:12 scale. The reason being is that it is large enough to provide ample amounts of detail and also because its the dollhouse scale. That's good news for me because there are a lot of dollhouse accessories that I can use to bring the details in. I've already found lanterns and table and chairs that would be a good fit so I'm going to use those to help decorate the model.

Here is another photo from a different angle. I built it using 1/4" x 1/4" - 36" long pieces of strip wood cut to size for the initial framing. I used Tulle to make the screen and then used popsicle sticks and craft sticks to secure the screen on the framing. This is outside view.

Besides the framing I have the base done and I will be attaching the framing to base hopefully today. So for now this is what I have done. I'll post more pictures and give an update when I have the framing attached to the base. Let me know what you guys think of my project.

An interesting project for sure.
So where in Orlando are you at?
I live right next to Sea World on the east side of I-4. I actually just moved here from California. I got a job as a cast member at Disney World. Do you live around here?

I'm loving the idea! I hope you don't have to deal with homeowner's association issues. (Assuming.there is one anyways.)

At least any rules won't affect the interior, which is the most important part! Thanks for the comment!

Not too far away at all! Good to meet someone from the RPF close by

Cool project.
I've seen a few other JC inspired builds over on the Tiki Central Forum.
You can find plenty of reference pix on the following sites.
Gorillas don't blog
Stuff from the park
Daveland.

There are plenty of others linked off those sites as well.
Wow thanks for those! I didn't even know those sites existed. Most of the reference I looked at came from a google image search. I also went to the Magic Kingdom today and snapped some more photos
