Judge Dredd belt buckle WIP

I've just received new photos of the Termight Replicas Judge Dredd belt buckle prototype. I'm still not 100% happy, which means it doesn't look like I'll have these for the Birmingham International Comics Show next weekend, but I'd rather get them right than rush at the last minute.

This is what the buckle is suppose to look like:

The flag will be enamel, so doesn't feature on the prototype.

Now would be a good time to make comments. Once the prototype has been moulded, it will be uneconomical to change anything.

Cheers,

Wake

Yes You are right, there should be some little changes made, but overall a good work! I colored the points where it can be overworked.

I believe it's gypsum or gesso. However, the company making it for me has asked me to send them a prototype I'm happy with because they don't want to try a third time. I'm hoping to get one CNCed in resin from the original 3ds file. I'm waiting for a quote at the moment, but I'd be happy to hear from anyone else who might be able to do it.

Here are views of the buckle which now has a flat shield area (the recesses for the enamel will be stamped into it by the factory). The width is 12cm which gives a height of about 9cm.

It's pretty good but I decided that it could be better.

31 March - Factory receives payment for modification to tool and new sample.

Finally (while I'm waiting for the second sample), here are photos of the first sample alongside the SD Studios movie buckle, a screen-used street judge buckle and one of Blad's resin comic buckles.

Fantastic! Great to see such international collaboration too. :)

Can you say whether the HK people modified Brad's casting directly, or did they completely remake it?

The only thing that stands out as 'wrong' to me is that the red and white stripes are very unevenly spaced, unlike on your design. Apart from that it's a beauty!

Brad's casting was modified directly. Unfortunately they have shaved too much off the underside of the beak so that's one of the things I'm hoping will be corrected for the second sample.

Here are front images of the 3D artwork (from Eire) and the approved sketch.

I did try and play about with the bar widths but to get them all identical but I think that revision might have been missed. I've just measured the three red bars and the first one is about 8mm compared with 8.5mm for the other two. That bar is also narrower on the computer artwork, so I'm happy with the flag as it is. The Pantone colours should match the USA flag but since it is enamel, it has visible golden borders between them.

Here's some more WIP stuff from last year. The Judge Dredd buckle is based on Cliff Robinson's artwork. This is the 3D artwork I sent him last May and the sketch he sent back.

I need a few more preorders before the run can go ahead, but hopefully I'll have 300 buckles in stock by the end of May.

Wake ,you need to do another run of the JD badge, cos now my son wants one and his not having mine, maybe you could sell the badge and buckle as a set,i still have one of your resin badges as well, and you can see the amount of work that went into the metal version.Amazing work as always,i've just gotta scrape up some funds for the buckle

Amazing work on the belt buckle there - love it!

The fanboi in me is dying to get his grubby little hands one of those puppies...

Well go for it. The Dredd badge is more iconic (and cheaper) but the buckle is something you can actually wear.

Cheers,

Wake

Buy the Badge you won't regrete it,i got another 1 for myself and my son finally has one(he loves it so much it's only come out of the plastic bag once,so that it won't get smudged...lol)
Thanks Wake for the very fast delivery
