Jon Favreau NOT directing Iron Man 3.

As posted here.

Seems like the Marvel Universe is not somewhere he is comfortable playing. It also reads like he wanted an insane amount of money for the sequel and we know how Marvel is about that.

Ah well, let's see what happens.

Always liked him. Really have. I just don't think I like him making superhero movies. The 2nd Ironman left something to be desired. It wasn't horrible or even bad. Deff better than either transformers... but what isn't?

You read my freakin' mind, didn't you?

Marvel was playing hard ball anyway, controlling and making as much cuts as possible in terms of payment to Favreau. Some way they did to Terrence Howard and got him out of IM 2.

Marvel will continue to keep costs low as much as possible. Favreau doesn't need all this and he is better off doing other films where he feels more welcomed and where it is creatively more challenging for him.

He made a great start for Marvel productions and it's now up to them to keep it going in the right direction.

^Howard's situation is diff than Favreau...Howard came late to work, didnt know his lines, etc etc..Favreau and Howard didnt get along so I heard....Don Cheadle was a better choice.

My money is on Don Cheadle to replace favreau ;)

Robert Downey will have final say, if he wants Favreau he'll get him. It's part of his contract, he can put his foot down and get John, or walk with no penalty.

For the first film Terrence was the highest paid cast member, even more than RDJ. For the sequel Marvel had to top his pay from the first movie or replace him. They chose the latter mostly due to the monetary reasons.

RDJ will definitely have a say in the choice of director. And though it is possible, I doubt he would now walk away from the role that revived his career.

That is the interesting part. Downey is a high draw actor right now, so they will likely bend if he wants Favreau back. It's pretty greedy on the part of Disney/Marvel. They are making bucket loads of money off of this franchise and the only reason they are is because the movies were well done. (Yes, even the second)

I enjoyed his first Iron Man movie, but the second one wasn't very good so maybe it's time he walked.

I'd honestly be more interested in who would replace him. Knowing how studios are lately probably Ang Lee or M. Night Shamalon (sp?).

I think after Avatar the last airbender, M Night Shamalon isnt worth the big name anymore...I think that was the final nail in the coffin......

Plus, I think RDJ will be pretty picky...I expect him to pick a director he worked with in the past....

In the short time since the announcement became "official" I've read that it's because of everything from Favreau wanting more money to Downey Jr. and Favreau having a falling out because IM2 didn't do as well as the first movie. And most of these "reasons" are from "reliable" sources... yet they all seem to tell a different story.

Personally, I'm disappointed he's leaving it but I also understand it.

I've also been doubting Marvel Entertainment's leadership more than a bit lately. They made a couple of great movies and I really started thinking "these guys know what they're doing" but after the train wreck of Spider-Man 3, the repeated fumbling of the Punisher and the Hulk... I don't think they have it quite as together as I used to think they did.

I'm still holding out hope for Thor and moreso for Captain America since Joe Johnston is directing but we'll just have to wait and see.

I dont get where all this dislike for IM2 comes from... was it as good as the first? No. Was it better than half the other super hero movies (or any movies for that matter) out there? Definitely. Although I like the original better overall, I find myself watching part 2 more at home based on the better visual effects and some much more dynamic fight sequences (NOT the ending - which was my biggest gripe about the movie).

From the things I have read it sounds like IM2 suffered from Marvel's iron fist and not so much Favreau. I just dont get why hollywood in general cant just leave something alone if its already great. IM1 was a hit, so why mess with the chemistry?

My biggest question is even if he doesnt direct, will Favreau return at least to play Happy?

Maybe we'll see RDJ step in and do some directing...? (doubtful)

I completely agree on all points. IM2 wasn't as bad as some make it out to be. But everything Sam Raimi has said about Spider-Man 3 really points to the problem being Marvel (or specifically at that time, Avi Arad) pushing too hard to mash in more than what fits (which is saying a lot considering Raimi was a huge Spider-Man fan to begin with.) But after hearing about Marvel's Avengers strategy... heaven only knows what they want to do with IM3. I'll just keep hoping for the best and if I don't like it, at least I've got 1 & 2 to enjoy.

I would just like to state for the record that I am not directing Iron Man 3, either.
